When uploading floor plans, site plans, elevations etc. are pdf files the accepted format, or can we use the new Autodesk Design Review dwf file format? Like Adobe, Autodesk offers a free reader

FTE Calculation for Movie Theatres

May 11, 2011

We are calculating FTE for a 2,500 seat, 14 screen movie theater. There will be 20 Full Time Employees but the number of patrons (Peak Transients) will vary greatly. Does the FTE calculation, for purposes of SSc4.3, assume the peak load of 2,500 patrons plus the 20 employees?

Building Height to Street Width Ratio Issues

Building Height to Street Width Ratio Issues

May 10, 2011

NPD P1 Walkable Street requires at least 15% of existing and new street frontage within and bordering the project has a minimum "building-height-to-street-width ratio" of 1:3.

Can anybody explain the definition of street frontage? Can I understand that it is a building facade runs parallel to an street?

There is a community in my hand that most of its building facade are not designed alongside the street, how can I identify the eligible ratio then?

Living with LEED Online - quirks, bugs and hiccups

Saving LEED Forms

May 2, 2011

Has anyone had a problem with saving LEED forms online? I am trying to update the EAp2 form online but when I try to save it (by clicking on the "Save" button on the bottom of each page) I get the error:

"Warning: JavaScript Window-
e.to.String()===General Error: Operation Failed.
Operation Failed."

And it doesn't save. I've been trying it for a week now with no change. I sent feedback to LEED, but haven't heard back from them yet. Is there some way to reset the pdf form or something? I was using IE8, and just updated to IE9, but had the same problem with both.

I am currently a LEED AP but have not worked with LEED for Homes. What would you recommend to get started. Also, do I need to be "Home" accredited to work on a LEED for Homes project?

LEED CS two building complex

LEED Guidance for Campuses and Multiple Buildings

LEED CS two building complex

April 26, 2011

Hi,

We are working on certifying a two builiding project with LEED CS. These buildings share a common project boundary and parking areas. They are part of the same project and were designed by the same design team, are being constructed by the same contractor, etc... So, we were filling up the project summary details form in LEED online and the first question is "Number of buildings attempting certification as part of this LEED Application". We wrote 2, and a message appeared telling us to "Please register each building separately". What to do? Should we consider both buildings as one because they are part of the same project? Should we prepare 2 different aplications and apply both buildings separately?

Your help will be much appreciated

fuel cells and LEED

K, the fuel cell could contribute to energy reductions which would have an impact on EAp2 and EAc1, but this would have to be modeled. The fuel cell itself would not be certified -- the building would be.

Waterfront sites

April 14, 2011

Can a project boundary extend into a lake? I have a Department of Natural Resources building located on a lakefront. They have a public boat landing on site. I must object to leaving the dock and boat ramp in darkness. However, if I light it I would be over the project boundary and beyond 15' would be more than .01fc.

Anyone have any LEED experience with waterfront sites project boundaries?

AGMBC 2010 - Multi-building industrial plant certification

AGMBC 2010 - Multi-building industrial plant certification

April 10, 2011

Hi there. I am working on an industrial plant 2009 LEED-NC/AGMBC 2010 certification. The plant consists of 9 building (the main production building and 8 buildings associated with its normal operations). My client intention is to have all site certificated. I need some assistance with the following questions:

1) LEED 2009 MPR states on page 19 that we are allowed to exclude small buildings from required compliance with MPRs if some conditions are met. However, only two such buildings may be included within the LEED project boundary (in this case the boundary is the entire site). I have identified 3 building that could be excluded due to insufficient floor area. So we are planning to certify 6 buildings using the Block/Master SIte tool. Would USGBC accept that?

2) AGMBC states on item 1.1.3 (Campus strategies for credits not included in Tables 1A and 1B) that "if the project teams believes that they can demonstrate compliance with a credit nos listed in the guidance as a campus credit, they may either submit the approach during the Master Site review, or submit an inquiry via the Project CIR process": Since all the buildings on this industrial plant site will be constructed simultaneously and are relatively close to each other, and are going to be built under the same construction contract, I believe that the following credits and prerequisites could be considered as campus credits:

- SS Prerequisite 1;
- SS Credit 8;
- MR Credits 4 and 5 (and maybe 6);
- IEQ Credits 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and 4.5.

I would like to have your comments and opinions on my conclusions. Thank you.
