Typical Days of Operation for a Combo Research & Classroom bldg.

June 4, 2015

Typical days of operation for the students, professors & educational staff is 206 and typical days of operation for the researchers and associated staff is 260. The former group occupies 4/5 of the building. To simplify, shall I just add (206 + 260) divide by 2 and call it 233 typical days of operation? Or should I use the largest number of days even though it represents the smallest subset of occupants?

Campus Registration instead of Block?

May 27, 2015

Hello all.
I notice on LEED Online that there is now an option to register a new project under "Campus" but not under "Block", which USED to be the way to start the registration process for multiple buildings.
Are we to assume that "Campus" is the new "Block"?

Can I lock the credits not to be touched by other team members ?

May 22, 2015

Is there any feature in LEED online to lock the credits not to be changed by other team members ? I was about to submit for design final submission but then the owner postponed it for one attachment. Everything is ready to go and I have already gone through the checklist. Now, I do want to keep all the related credits in locked position until I submit it because I do not want go through and check every single attachment and form again

Filed (2)exemp. performance credit under (1) ID in case one fail

May 22, 2015

Hi,
I filed two exemplary performance credit under the same Innovation in design in case one fails. Would it be acceptable ?

ID credit form shows the first exemplary credit but I attached the response report for the credit review comments and this report has two exemplary points shown under one ID credit, one exemplary point that is already in the form and one as a back up. They both technically eligible but first one was previously commented. We believe that we addressed their comments.

Where do I upload the response report for Design Final Package ?

May 22, 2015

We, as a team are getting ready to submit our design final submission and prepared a report to respond to each individual comments made by GBCI. It is a compiled report (one file) that has break down of the responses to each credit comment. My question is where I am going to upload this compiled file and how I am going to aware the reviewer(s) that responses are in this file. Can I upload the compiled file to each credit form that has a comment ?

Can I defer any ID credit to submit it w/ construction package ?

May 22, 2015

Hi,

I previously filed an innovation credit with my design preliminary submission and received an comment from GBCI therefore it is pending. I am getting ready to submit my design final package but want to apply for a different innovation credit and defer it to the construction package. Would it be done ? If so, do I need to mention in my response that I am changing the credit and deferring it to the construction package ?

EBie Awards 2015 Finalists Announced by Urban Green

Urban Green Council, the New York affiliate of the U.S. Green Building Council, has announced finalists from around the country for the EBie Awards. The winners of the nationwide competition will be announced in New York on June 22.

The EBies (EE-bees, short for Existing Buildings) recognize improved environmental performance in existing buildings among building operators, facilities managers, owners, engineers and other professionals who conceived and implemented the work. The awards put a spotlight on the leaders who have found replicable solutions that cut energy and water use, measurably reduce waste, make lighting more efficient, engage tenants in green initiatives, and make sustainability improvements across a building portfolio.

The 2015 EBie Finalists are:

The All-Rounder: Performance Excellence in Multiple Categories

  • Molly Westbrook, CommonWealth Partners, Millcreek UT
  • Stephen Monez, Mount Sinai Health System, Corporate Engineering, Brooklyn, NY
  • Kenner Kingston, Architectural Nexus, Salt Lake City, UT

The Smooth Operator: Operations and Maintenance Excellence

  • Saverio Grosso, Eneractive Solutions, New York, NY
  • Eric Lessne, Southern CT State University, New Haven, CT
  • Eric Gregory, Goizueta School of Business, Atlanta, GA
  • Tim Trefzer, Georgia World Congress Center Authority, Atlanta, GA

Hi all, I asked this earlier, and I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but my team is pretty confused about the situation. Any advice that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

We have a shopping center interested in certification with 10 buildings. Only 3 buildings will have restroom facilities for the retail customers that is meant to serve the entire project (and is approved as meeting code as such). We are not sure how to do the WEp1 calculation.

Our original thought is to do a water calculation according to the water use of the retail customers in each building even if the building does not have the restroom facilities. For example, Building A does not have restrooms, but we will still include a water reduction calculation base on the 114 transients using the restroom facilities in Building B. And Building B will only count the water usage of its transients and not the transients of any other building.

Is this an acceptable approach?
Thanks in advance.

2009 BD+C and 2009 CS on Campus site- SSc4.2

May 18, 2015

SSc4.2 is listed as a "Campus" credit. However, we have one project that is pursuing Major Renovation, and another pursuing Core & Shell certification. SSc4.2 has (1) point under Major Renovation, and (2) points under Core & Shell.
To make matters more interesting, the shower facilities will probably be in the Major Renovation project, which is so large that we probably will not be able to provide all the necessary bicycle spaces to achieve the credit...
Has anyone any experience with how we could resolve this - pursue this not as a campus credit, but for the Core & Shell only?
Thanks!

What are the criteria for Group Certification

What are the criteria for Group Certification

May 6, 2015

Hello,
I refer to Donald Green's comment from April 9 2014, "GBCI really wants all buildings in a Group Certification to be very similar, that way the Group Credits can be documented easily. Otherwise you may have issue when trying to document if the buildings are too different. Sounds like a Campus approach with a Master Site may be the best way to go for this project......

Review the new AGMBC issued on 4/1/14."

This makes sense to me.

Until I read page 10 of the April 2014 LEED Campus Guidance - "For O&M projects, all buildings....in the group must share the same space type (or must be eligible to be rated as the same space type in the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager)." This implies the "similarity" criteria applies only to LEED EBOM, no?

Further down on page 10 of the Campus Guidance "For credits that must be documented on an individual building or space basis, points are awarded to the group based on the lowest performing building except where noted in the credit specific information in the appendices."

Does this mean that if one building in a Group achieves 12% of energy savings, while another achieves 40%, that the Group as a whole achieves only 12% energy savings?

I have been trying to get clarification on this one issue for the past year - on this forum, from USGBC....to no avail.

Does ANYBODY know?

Thanks in advance!
