Do I have to use DES Guidance?

Do I have to use DES Guidance?

February 14, 2014

We´re working on a Resort LEED Project (one owner) conformed by a Hotel, service buildings, SPA and villages, LEED boundary is considering only Hotel and Service Buildings, however, Cooling Plant (3 chillers) will provide chilled water to the whole resort, therefore, is it required to use DES guidance for EAp2 and c1 documentation?

If it is required to use DES guidance, option 2 will be followed, which consists on considering upstream and downstream equipment, we assume upstream refers to all HVAC equipments out of the LEED boundary connected to the Cooling Plant and downstream to all HVAC equipment located into LEED Boundary, including the Cooling Plant (Which is inside the LEED Boundary), Does the Energy Model has to consider the whole project eventhough upstream equipment are located outside of the LEED Boundary?

If it is not required, we were thinking to generate an Energy Model considering only the buildings into de LEED boundary (Hotel and service buildings), a second Energy Model could be generated in order to confirm Space Cooling energy consumption of the rest of the buildings located outside of the LEED boundary and then include this energy consumption on the first Energy Model as a process load. Is this strategy correct?

Thank you very much,

Regards.

BLDG CLASSIFICATION

BLDG CLASSIFICATION

February 11, 2014

I'm having trouble classifying our ALF (Assisted Living Facility); is it a NC? or Healthcare? or Hospitality. It's a 3 Story, 80,000 SF, w/140 beds.
My closest choice would be "New Construction" -since it's not an Hotel and Assisted care for seniors wouldn't qualify as patients; would they?-,
Whatever the choice; then do I use NC 2009 or v4?
I'm very confused navigating all over and still no clear "light at the end of the tunnel"

FTE - partially occupied building

February 10, 2014

For our current project, the building will not be occupied to full capacity until about 5 years after substantial completion (25% of the project will be shelled. We are wondering whether we should calculate FTE based upon full occupancy, or merely to the extent it will be occupied once the initial phase is complete.

Multiple Building College dorm project with dining

Calculating FTEs

Multiple Building College dorm project with dining

February 10, 2014

So I have a multiple building project with 2 resident halls and a dining facility. During the school year (approx. 273 days) has 572 students, 32 full time employees (including dining), 43 part time staff, and 600 visitors (including dining). During the summer (approx. 92 days) they have a sports camp for high school kids and summer students which drives up the potential residents to 2500 (staff remains the same). How would I determine the FTE / visitor count? Do I put in the facility is open 365 days a year and just average all the residents / staff based on the summer vs academic year actual days? This is a bit confusing so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Contacting the LEED Reviewer (Aiming Platinum)

February 6, 2014

We have received the comments for our project but for EAp2 and EAc1 we would like to clarify or understand where the reviewer is coming from since a comment doesn't seem to make sense to us. Before we submit our last clarifications we wanted to contact him/her but he doesn't seem to be accessible. I have heard before for other companies and other projects that they were able to talk to reviewer but I was wondering if this is common or not.

Thanks much

Do I model part-load curve for the DES default efficiency?

Do I model part-load curve for the DES default efficiency?

February 5, 2014

The DES guideline (2010) allows us to model DES cooling plant with a COP of 4.4, which includes cooling towers and primary pumps. When we use this default efficiency, can we still apply a part-load curve? (something like 90.1 default curve) Or is it an average efficiency which already count for all part-load and full-load condition? (in which case we need to apply a flat curve to the cooling plant) Thanks.

CIR and Documentation

February 5, 2014

Does anyone know if you have submitted a CIR and gotten positive feedback on your strategy, do you have to upload the response with your credit documentation or is it linked already to your project and the review team has access and knowledge of the whole situation?

LEED Guidance for Campuses and Multiple Buildings

SSp1 fo contiguous sites

February 3, 2014

If you have several sites within the Campus Master Site whereby the projects are to be constructed at the same time and the project sites are contiguous, is there any way to not have a separate ESC for each site? Thereby having 1 ESC surrounding all of the sites to allow the contractor to move freely between sites and minimize entry points.

Thank you,

K-12 Project Using LEED for Schools 2.0 & AGMBC 2005

LEED Guidance for Campuses and Multiple Buildings

K-12 Project Using LEED for Schools 2.0 & AGMBC 2005

January 31, 2014

I am looking for some answers regarding a K-12 Project we are submitting to LEED that involves certifying the ADDITIONS ONLY to two separate buildings on a shared campus site. We already have both school buildings registered on LEED Online with two separate Project ID's under LEED for Schools 2.0 and we are referencing the LEED AGMBC 2005 for the project so we can certify the building additions for the two separate schools separately instead of as a group of buildings receiving one certification.
I had a few questions regarding the proper way to submit these buildings through LEED online. We would like to ensure we are able to benefit from the Sustainable Sites credits (along with some select other credits) being applied to both projects since we designed the site elements (parking, community connectivity, etc.) using a holistic campus design approach. I am a LEED AP who is new to the AGMBC process and would like some suggestions and explanation regarding how to go about submitting the site credits for a shared campus under the AGMBC submission process. Another LEED AP I know suggested that we submit the Middle School first with all the SS credit material and just note in the templates for each credit that we are seeking approval for these credits as "shared campus credits". Then following certification of the first building we should submit the second building and note in the templates that the credits for the SS categories were already reviewed and approved under the Middle School's Project ID. Is this the correct approach to this unique situation under the AGMBC 2005 guidelines?
Are there any other things we should be making sure we do during the submission process to ensure that it's easily understood by the reviewers and we can submit everything correctly the first time? Please let me know!
