Phased major renovation

January 30, 2014

I have a client that is phasing the major renovation of their facility due to the need to keep it in continuous operations. Each phase is separated horizontally (one long building) with firewalls and a single contractor will be performing all phases. it is anticipated that the five phases will be constructed over a 3-4 year period but subsequent phased construction cannot occur until the previous phase is complete - no concurrent construction of phases.

We wish to pursue a single LEED NC certification for the entire project but are wondering if there is any issue doing so because of the phasing plan and length of time for certification.

LEED v4 and v2009 projects and On-Campus Approach

LEED v4 and v2009 projects and On-Campus Approach

January 29, 2014

The AGMBC has a section titled "New Versions of LEED" that states : If the version of LEED changes (for example from LEED 2009 to future versions of LEED) all campus credits must be re-submitted for review at the expense of the project team before the campus credits may be used on projects under the new version of the rating system." Does this mean that some individual buildings may be registered under 2009 and others under v4, but all the campus wide credits will have to update to LEED v4? Or will the original campus credits for 2009 still apply to buildings under 2009, and only v4-registered projects use the campus credits submitted under v4? If all the projects have to use the LEED v4 campus credits, would we need to cross-reference the list of acceptable LEED v4 credits for substitution (http://www.usgbc.org/resources/2009-v4-credit-substitution-bdc) to determine which campus credits from LEED v4 would be accepted for v2009 projects?

Alternative Compliance Path from one project for another project

January 27, 2014

Hello,

We have submitted an alternative compliance path for WEp1 which was denied. However, the same alternative compliance path was accepted during a previous review for another project. Was it therefore reasonable to assume that it would be approved here as well? Can one use the same path on a new project and make reference to the fact that it has already been previously accepted on another project?

Thanks for any insight!

Design Preliminary Review - change forms to In-Progress?

January 23, 2014

I have inherited multiple LEED registered projects, and it has been a while since I submitted anything for LEED. LEEDonline for two LEED v2009 projects under review is acting differently for each. One project is in Design Preliminary Review, and forms for credits that are "pending" show as complete. When I select the "In-Progress" option so I can edit them, I get a big warning about having to resubmit or withdraw the credit. Is it correct to go ahead and select that?
The other project is in Design and Construction final review, and the credits that are pending are not marked as complete and can be edited.

Informal Space in a University Setting

Informal Space in a University Setting

January 23, 2014

Does anyone have any experience with having a large informal waiting space outside of classrooms and determining a transient load. There will be users using waiting in this space before and after classes. For permitting purposes we had to take a percentage of the classroom seats and apply it to the informal space. However, the number is quite high and the peak period of maximum occupancy is more or less 15 min at class changes.

Split Submissions now and after 2015

January 22, 2014

This may be an odd question:
Does anyone know what might happen if our project, NC 2.2 registered before 2009, submits for design review this year, then submits for construction review after the 2015 close out date for NC 2.2 projects. We're still in design now. Construction will begin in the Fall, we think. It may be completed within a year, but that depends on funding. It is likely that the project won't be completed before June 2015. So what happens then?

I failed to find and updated list of credit eligible for design stage submittal.

Help! Where can I find ArcEditor 9.3 for the Connections Tool?

January 13, 2014

Greetings!

According to the Connections Tool resource page on LEED-Online:

"The user must have ArcEditor 9.3 or ArcInfo 9.3. The tool is not compatible with ArcView, ArcEditor 10 or ArcInfo 10."

Unfortunately, the ESRI Support rep informed me that they no longer keep ArcGIS 9.3 media. Does anyone know where I could purchase ArcEditor 9.3?

...If not, does anyone know when (and if) the Connections Tool may be updated to run on ArcGIS Desktop Standard? Has anybody tried to run it on the current version of ArcGIS? Results?

Certification: Final Steps

January 13, 2014

Just last week, we submitted our Construction Credits for Preliminary Review. This is my first LEED project and I am just wondering what to expect after Final Review and the Appeal stage, if necessary: (LEEDonline describes every step up to certification, which is listed as 'in development' on their help section). Any insight would be helpful.
