Performance Period

October 22, 2010

Hi Ryan - I'm not sure I understand your question. The performance period is basically defined by the timing of your submittal. If you submit documentation, your PP effectively ends at that time. There is no need for your policy to state the performance period - what is important is that the policy state the date of adoption and the next date of revision or review. The latter date can be as distant in the future as you prefer, or it may simply be 'when necessary.' Does that help at all?

split out buildings

LEED is generally applied to individual, whole buildings, so you'll have to split these buldings out into different LEED projects, anyway.
For the finished building, the most likely course of action is to start on an EBOM certifiation which requires 12 months of energy data.
For the unfinished buildings, you could go for LEED-NC.

LEED-NC or LEED-EBOM

LEED-NC or LEED-EBOM

October 21, 2010

Given the high level of work going on, it sounds like LEED-NC is most appropriate here. If the building remains occupied through the work,  then I would say that you have your choice to use LEED-EBOM, if you wanted to. If you haven't already you should review the LEED rating system selectin policy. Also, when you go to register a project in LEED Online you will be able to use a selection tool.

Help - Want to Use Part II of AGMBC NOW!

October 20, 2010

Hi there - I'm working on a high-profile 4-building new construction campus. The owner is very excited about earning Platinum for the entire campus. They definitely want ONE certification for the campus, not individual building certifications as offered in Part 1 of the new AGMBC. It seems like in the 2010 Part 1 approach for a 4-building campus, you could end up with a Silver, Gold and maybe 2 Platinum buildings, given that each building has differing water and energy draws, some will have PV panels, others will not, etc. This is not desirable for our client.

When I speak to the GBCI customer service staff, they push you toward registering a block, and then adding the four buildings individually to the block, which seems to me to establish the Part 1 path.

What do we do if we want to earn one certification for the entire campus, but are ready to start documenting our project now? Can we revert to the 2005 AGMBC which allows for a single registration for all four buildings, and allows you to use averages and weighted averages for Optimize Energy and other such credits?

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Laura

Where can international users download the regional priority credits? I don't see an international label on the USGBC site. I would like to see the threshold levels for the specific credits or it would be helpful if you could add them to your list..

No consistency yet

This is really cool, so we are on par with USA! In a China LEED-CI project, I suppose via the country field, LOv3 already recognising we are not in US territory and RPC crediting the project, but the category is not as above:

SSc1 Site Selection-Select a LEED Certif...
WEc1 Water Use Reduction
MRc3.1 Materials Reuse
IEQc6.1 Controllability of Systems-Lighting
IEQc7.1 Thermal Comfort-Design

As you can see comparing with your list it does not match. Also it does not match with the official USGBC list either. For instance, we will pursue enhanced commisioning but LOv3 does not recognise that.

How come?

PS I am interested in being a part of the LEED International Roundtable representing Asia to determine the permanent RCP for countries such as China, HK, Singapore, India etc. How to volunteer?

Re: NC or CS

This sounds more like NC since the building owner/ developer is in control of selecting finishes for more than 60% of the building. Even if the residential units are eventually sold to other owners, there is one decision maker for the majority of the design and construction of the building.

You can always go thru the first steps of registering a project in LEED Online and use the rating system selection questions to help you determine the most appropriate rating system.

Hope that helps!

Jeff, which LEED rating system are you using? What's the rough percentage of spaces that will be finished vs. those requiring fit-out?

Very large complex DES

October 14, 2010

Hi

I'm trying to certify a building in Denmark which is connected to the local district heating system. This system delivers district heating to about 275.000 households, the plant is about 15 miles away and is run by a private company. We can't get detailed information about pressure loss in the pipes etc. Anyone knows how to adress this? As I read the new guidance on DES we can only get 10 points for this model if we don't do it upstream which is kind of crazy;-) But why can't we only get 10 points for this building that saves more than 75% energy compared to the baseline?

Does anyone know when this DES will be unloaded for these very large complex DES?

Kind regards
Niels Varming

I think this is fairly simple—you can add a new project adminstrator to the project via LEED Online, and remove the old one. You don't need to register a new project. If you have any trouble with this, I would ask GBCI for help via LEED Online.
