Reduced Parking Footprint on Campus

NC-v4 LTc7: Reduced parking footprint
posted by Julia Manion on Sep 3, 2024, 2:02 pm

Has anyone achieved Reduced Parking Footprint on a Campus project?  We planned to attempt this credit on a college campus that is pursuing LEED Campus Certification. The campus will have two NC builds and a parking garage. The Campus boundary will be replacing an existing surface parking lot. Is there any path to this credit that doesn't require taking count for all available parking on the entire campus (even beyond our Campus LEED boundary)?  LTc7 U.S. and Canada ...

Are their points available for over achieving on this prerequisite (ETS control), such as a no smoking campus policy? The LEED On-line Letter Template has a box to check for alternative path compliance that suggests possible points, but no explanation of how to proceed. IEQp2 ...

similar to zero-lot-line situation

This sounds similar to the situation encountered by zero-lot-line buildings (with no "site" to speak of), which LEEDuser discusses in our guidance on the NC 2009 SSp1 page. I would recommend that you document the credit with a narrative report explaining which CGP requirements don’t apply to your project conditions, which do, and how you plan to implement them. You Choose the LEED Project Boundary

I agree with Joel. You get to choose the LEED project boundary for your current LEED project. Gerrymandering is not allowed. Make sure that you are consistent with your boundary throughout the entire project. Be sure to dentify the LEED Project Boundary on EVERY drawing that you submit-- so that it's very clear where the project boundary lies. We used mark-up software to draw a line around the boundary and called it out. Likewise, if there are buildings on the property that are NOT part of your LEED project, "x" those out on the drawings as well. Best of luck! Sherry Bonelli, LEED Green...

Which rating system: LEED-NC or LEED-CI?

General forums

In the "LEED 2009 Supplemental MPR Guidance" document we found that there is an exception that may allow an owner occupied building to qualify under LEED-CI rather than NC (page 10). It seems we are in a bit of grey area as to which rating system to use for this project and even if either will result in an acceptable boundary line. The building is an existing building, 100% owner occupied & managed, with horizontal separation by a party wall that separates “National Corporate Offices” from “NJ Distribution Warehouse”. Much of the warehouse is a recent addition and is largely...

Norwegian Standard

LEED wants you to use ASHRAE 90.1. You might have a chance arguing that the Norwegian standard is equivalent, or more stringent, but you would need to prove that in your submission. How many kWh /ft2 for a standard office building? Well, that depends on a lot of factors such as location, schedule and energy sources. An all electric building will have more kWh /ft2/yr than a building heated with natural gas. According to the Energy Star data, available through Energy Star Target Finder http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=new_bldg_design.bus_target_finder an average office building in my area...

Big difference between residential and non-res occupancies

Hi Eric, For non-residential buildings, the credit language is really clear: "Provide secure bicycle racks and/or storage". Bick racks are fine. For residential, covered or indoor storage is required. It's a little more vague, but bike racks under a roof are generally considered acceptable. There is a lot more detail about this in the "Checklists" section of LEEDuser's page about this credit. And some interesting conversation in the forum area of the credit as well. LEED ...

check MPRs

Interesting situation. I think that in terms of the actual LEED credit requirements, you could do this. It's common to meet SSp1, for example, with a bare-bones erosion control plan (like on a zero-lot-line project). However, you may have some issues with the Minimum Program Requirements (basic qualification for LEED). Review these, if you haven't, and see what questions come up. And the discussion forum on that page might be a better place to resume this conversation. My quick thought is that you might have better luck counting the whole hangar as being within the project scope (and LEED...
