LEED Project Boundary Changes

January 19, 2012

We have a project for which we are about to submitt precertification documentation.
There were changes to the original project boundary because the street will be widened. Can we change the incially registered site area, property area and LEED project boundary?
Thank you all for your help.

Move design credits to the construction credit review

January 19, 2012

We are working on a project where the building is to go through a major renovation. renovation is to be carried out floor by floor and the roofing will be done in the later part of the project. so the roofing material is also to be decided later. But SSc7.2 Heat Islan Effect - Roof is a design submission credit. is it possible for us to do the design submission excluding this credit and submit it in the construction submission? if possible do we need to inform USGBC or is there a special procedure involved?

LEED HC project with a basement-connected CUP building

LEED HC project with a basement-connected CUP building

January 18, 2012

We are doing a HC project that has two visually separate buildings, main clinic building and a CUP building, but these two buildings' basements are connected. We are thinking using DES Guidance Performance Option 2 to obtain higher energy scores. The mechanical rooms and control room are in CUP building's above-grade floors, its basement is a part of the main building's clinical space.

However, we are not sure if we want to certify the CUP buildings. Are we allow to exclude CUP building from the LEED boundary, but still include its basement? Because it seems that in DES Guidance it allows CUP building not to be certified.

Please help, cheers.

LEED Homes International Pilot

January 17, 2012

Currently I'm conducting the LEED Homes International Pilot project in China. After consulting with USGBC (Kelsey and Courtney) since year 2010, the project was gone thru registration process smoothly and much better understanding on the whole certification process including the roles of Green Rater / Energy Rater / QAD. The project is finally under construction since couple months ago. Now we're facing many obstacles in terms of technical challenges from the Green Rater.

Basically, the key challenge is the fundamental design and construction practices are so different between China and US. My perception is that USGBC try to build a US residential home in China because all the credits are referenced to US standards. Theoretically, the design team including client can meet most the credit requirements including import US products. However, there’re some unreasonable design end up will implement in the house (in my opinion) which I’m afraid the end product will be criticized a lot by the local market. (e.g. excessive insulation in southern China climatic conditions, unrealistic low window SC factor, limited product availability in China, etc.) The most challenging is using REM to gauge the HERS index for residential in China…. Personally, I’ve no objection of the REM software. But it is not flexible as other LEED commercial rating using DOE-2 that allow some trade-offs. I wish there will have alternative compliance path available to deal with this energy credit in near future. However, LEED for Homes rating system is quite unusual that relies a lot on Green Rater rather than USGBC itself.

Although I raised these questions to our Green Rater and USGBC (Kelsey) many rounds already, I’m afraid I still can’t persuade their thoughts. (I can understand they’ve to protect the integrity and reputation for LEED Home). I hope this post won’t sounds like a complaint. I just want to voice out to other people going to pursue LEED Homes outside of US better notice this kinds of challenges.

Regarding FSC certified wood-Is the calculation in LEED for Homes the same as in LEED NC as it pertains to only allowing "new wood" and if so, where is this referenced.

On PI Form 3 under complex occupancy it asks you to upload PIf3-1. Is there a form provided for this or do we create our own?

Questions about multiple buildings certification (small complex)

January 12, 2012

Hello everyone, I am new in the simulation of LEED proyects. I want know if any can help me to answering a doubt.

If I have a building,Security booths, and a small building (for the maintenance personnel), wich will be totally LEED certified, applied as a single certification? and if so how applied the rules of the Appendix G Table G3.1.1A ''Baseline HVAC Sytem Types''.

Each building must comply with the rules of area individually and have a separate HVAC system from the rest, based on their area? or this table applied to the totally area of the buildings resort (the sum of the individually area), and therefore selected with a total area one HVAC system.

Many thanks for your help.

Should be good to go

January 12, 2012

I recently went through the BD&C eligibiliy requirements for a coworker and the latest pdf (http://www.gbci.org/main-nav/professional-credentials/resources/candidat...) says

"This work experience must be documented through LEED Online* or in the form of a letter of attestation from a supervisor,..."

"*In order to verify project participation through LEED Online, please submit a screenshot which captures the project name and date, as well as your name and your access to/role within the project."

Check the Candidate Handbook. Around pages 5 & 6 it says "either" a letter or documented LEED Online experience.
