Living with LEED Online - quirks, bugs and hiccups

It's 2012. Any updates on this?

February 1, 2012

This non-support of OS X is killing me. I'm maintaining one outdated machine for our office to share among eight LEED APs.

Anyone have any luck with Safari 5 and beyond?

Anyone been told of an estimated date of compatibility?

Thanks.

Exemplary Performance in Stage 1

February 1, 2012

Hello,

I am working on Stage 1 submittal templates and have noticed that some templates for credits which offer exemplary performance per the reference guide (e.g. GIB C4, GIB C14) do not give the 'exemplary performance' option.

Is this deliberate, because these credits essentially rely on developer commitments at Stage 1? Or is something missing, and can I anticipate that it will get fixed by GBCI in revisions of the LEED Online submittal templates?

Subdivivided, Previously Developed Land

Subdivivided, Previously Developed Land

January 30, 2012

Our project sits on a lot that was subdivided out from a larger parcel in the past. The original, combined lot, was about 50% paved and has two buildings on it, and continues to be used as a car dealership. The portion of the property that was subdivided off is unpaved but is bare dirt and rock and has been used as storage for the years since.

Does anyone have resources or knowledge about how LEED ND treats subdivisions like this? Can we call our portion of the original lot "previously developed" since it was originally part of a lot that was developed on? Where might I turn to look further into this?

Thanks,
Sam

When is the normal period to submit for design review phase?

When is the normal period to submit for design review phase?

January 30, 2012

We have been working on our first LEED project in Thailand. We have been involved in the project since the beginning. It will take roughly 2.5 years for building design and construction (1.5 year as of today). Therefore, with the time left, we decided to do split review for timeline and reviews.

My question is that when is the most appropriate period to submit for design review phase.
LOv.3 says we can submit for design review phase once we complete all PI forms and have at least one design prerequisite completed. We can do it now if we stick with LOv.3 minimum requirements for design review submittal. However, in the timeline diagram, it suggests submitting design review during occupancy permit period.
How important is it to wait until that period? From your experience, are there any credit that we should complete before submitting for design review?

LEED boundary changes permitted?

January 26, 2012

we will be preparing our ND project for Stage 2 certification in the course of the next few months and we have the LEED boundary pretty much staked out.

the developer has just announced that they may look at purchasing a further piece of land at some stage in the future, where the idea would be that it will be incorporated into the overall ND project. would we be allowed to change the LEED boundary once we get to Stage 3 certification, provided that there are no major changes to the overall LEED ND goals that we are committing to in the Stage 2 application?

many thanks!

FTE calculation for conference rooms

January 25, 2012

My project has five conference rooms that will not be used frequently. How should I go about calculating the amount of visitors for them, and how should peak visitors be estimated in this case?

Cost info on LEED EBOM

January 20, 2012

For LEED EBOM cost info look at info in document from Environmental Defense Fund / edf.org titled
Climate Corps Handbook
Energy Efficiency Investment Opportunities in Commercial Buildings / FOURTH EDITION @ below link.

edfclimatecorps.org/handbook

Please post if anyone has anything better. We are pricing a 1985 200,000 sq ft K-12 school for LEED EBOM. BAS and MEP systems need minor improvements for LEED Certified and major improvements for LEED Gold. We could use cost estimating data based on $/sq ft info and cost increase data between each level of LEED. We can then use a multiplier based on conditions of the systems and degree of savings to be considered to develop a SWAG value for budgeting prior to final pricing.

Appeals

Is there a limit to the number of appeals? The cost is so much per credit on appeals if I understand correctly?

Design Appeal and Construction Submittal

January 20, 2012

We had run into the issue that before we accepted the Design appeal we could not upload anything to our project site. The Design team is ready to submitt the Design Appeal next week and am wondering if we will be able to upload documents to the USGBC Project site for the construction submittal at this time?

Phoebe,
The buildings must be physically distinct, and have unique addresses or names among other issues according to the Minimum Program Requirements Supplemental Guidance. Specifically, #3, there is lots of information for what you propose. Here's a link: http://www.usgbc.org/ShowFile.aspx?DocumentID=9552
Good Luck!
