Data Center Rating System

NC-2009 PIf1: Minimum Program Requirements

There are a lot of new data centers being built. My first reaction is to register these as C&S since they are providing rental space (the empty data "suites") to tenants. What goes into the suites (servers) are not always under the control of the landlord. What experiences with this approach have people had? I notice most of these projects go for NC. Is there a reason why they don't do C&S? PIf1 ...

The previously developed site definition reflected in the narrative above is one that I'm familiar with from a fairly recent addendum. Yet when I look at the 2009 Edition reference manual and the "new" rating systems on the new USGBC website, I see the following: " Previously developed areas are those that previously contained buildings, roadways, parking lots or were graded or altered by direct human activities." This less stringent definition would seem to imply that agricultural or farming activities that included a small house for example would qualify as altered by human...

You might have a problem documenting the project meets the requirements to the satisfaction of the reviewers. Of course, I saw one CIR from long ago that said something along the lines of "since it doesn't rain in Egypt we didn't implement a erosion and sedimentation control...

can't claim the remaining 5 W/m2 as a "savings". Your baseline and your design model will use the value of 23,8 W/m2 for that space. So, having a lot of decorative lights will show a zero energy...
