Required parking lots and LEED boundary Calculations

CS-2009 MPR3: Must use a reasonable site boundary
posted by kerry wang on May 25, 2016, 10:37 pm

Hi all, We have a question about LEED boundary calculation as below: In order to save the land, our company has set up a shared parking lot in the area, so this project does not have new parking spaces. The parking lots, which we call it “Traffic Center” is built for the whole surrounding building, including this project. The traffic center is located at the northwest of the project site. Both traffic center and the LEED Project are belong to the same owner. Our project team also have permission to use these parking lots.Traffic Center are not calculated into the LEED boundary. Question: 1. can...

also very confusing to have a water reduction calculator that looks identical to v4 but is actually for v2009 and leaves the metered faucet calculation in there. A whole lot of room for error. WEp1 ...

We are submitting a 90,000 SF Humanities Building on a commuter campus. The agency owner has eliminated practically all interior parking over the last 5 years. I'd say just walking to the building from the lots is impacting obesity rates. EQpc78 United States ...

Classroom Building on a Commuter College Campus

Pilot-Credits PC14: Walkable Streets
posted by Allen Schaffer on Jul 8, 2016, 3:13 pm

Our 90,000 SF Humanities Building on a commuter college campus was just about the most perfect project for this pilot credit. The building required the demolition an interior road and a parking lot at a point between the campus buildings and outbound commuter parking lots. Grade level is a full story lower than the adjacent Student Center and Main Library Buildings. Previously, students traversed ramps and stairs to travel from the lots to the interior of the campus. The interior road is now a 13' wide sidewalk. We created a dynamic new way for students and faculty to enter campus through the building...

Recycling Rates- Facts and Figures

CI-2009 MRp1: Storage and Collection of Recyclables

Came across a good reference for estimating recycling rates on EPA's website- a question that a lot of people have, since we are seeing that being brought up by reviewers. https://www.epa.gov/smm/advancing-sustainable-materials-management-facts... The stats are a few years old... but I think a good starting point. "In 2013, Americans generated about 254 million tons of trash and recycled and composted about 87 million tons of this material, equivalent to a 34.3 percent recycling rate. On average, we recycled and composted 1.51 pounds of our individual waste generation of 4.40 pounds per person per day." MRp1 United States ...

Sliding Scale

Pilot-Credits SSpc83: Offsite Financial Support for Habitat Protection

I wish that this Pilot Credit had some sort of sliding scale built-in for the size of the donation. I love the idea of it, but the flat rate of $0.40/SF makes it really hard for a lot of projects to achieve. We had one project where the donation would've had to be $1.8 Million to meet the requirements. I recognize that not every credit it applicable to every project. It just is tough for large campus-setting projects where they can't set aside the area on-site but then also can't afford the donation. SSpc83 ...

Calculating stored rainwater available

NC-2009 WEc3: Water Use Reduction
posted by Yusuf Turab on Aug 13, 2016, 7:40 am

We are having some trouble coming up with the calculation for rainwater stored and reused annually. We have a roof area of about 700 Sqm with an annual rainfall of 700 mm and a storage capacity of 50000 litres. A lot of this rain happens in a short span of time say two rainy months. Most of the other months are quite dry. We are absolutely certain that we have sufficient capacity to store two days of peak rainfall. But we are not certain that we can use the entire capacity quickly enough to make room for more rain. Specially if it rains during weekends. I was wondering is there a calculator that can...

Compliance for Existing Site Features

Pilot-Credits PC14: Walkable Streets

I am working on a project where most of the site hardscape is existing. I'm looking for an opinion specifically on two of the requirements for this credit. 7. There are no sidewalks adjacent to the street within the project boundary. Does this mean that all driveways intersecting the project boundary must be 20 feet? Does this apply to existing driveways? Conversely, does the lack of sidewalks along a street mean that we meet this requirement because no sidewalks cross a driveway? 9. Trees must be provided between vehicle travel ways and sidewalks. Does a parking lot qualify as a vehicle travel way?...

This says we have to reduce from the baseline, which I assume is our initial reported use. However, if this is the case how can there be any reduction? Is it suppose to read something along the lines of have a proposed reduction of... or is there something else I'm missing here? SSc5 United States ...
