Our 90,000 SF Humanities Building on a commuter college campus was just about the most perfect project for this pilot credit. The building required the demolition an interior road and a parking lot at a point between the campus buildings and outbound commuter parking lots. Grade level is a full story lower than the adjacent Student Center and Main Library Buildings. Previously, students traversed ramps and stairs to travel from the lots to the interior of the campus. The interior road is now a 13' wide sidewalk. We created a dynamic new way for students and faculty to enter campus through the building providing wide main corridors and 1st and 2nd floor vestibules leading directly to interior campus plazas, a new student courtyard, a new amphitheater, and a new pedestrian bridge to the Student Center cafeteria and bookstore. The Humanities Department showcases student work for all that travel to or through the building.
There are aspects of walk-ability that we were able to accomplish that maxed out the requirements of this credit.
