Regularly occupied areas in a stadium

NC-2009 IEQc8.1: Daylight and views - daylight
posted by Carolina Vergnano on Apr 15, 2011, 4:51 pm

My project is a Soccer Stadium and I'm having problems defining which are the "regularly occupied areas" I should consider when simulating daylight and views... Should I consider the grandstand, boxes, restaurants, stores and press rooms, as these places are the most occupied areas in a stadium, or just places where there's someone working at? Thanks a lot! IEQc8.1 ...

Heat Pipes

NC-2009 EAc4: Enhanced Refrigerant Management

Bill Swanson Sr. Electrical Engineer Integrated Design Solutions LEEDuser Expert 734 thumbs up April 19, 2011- 2:25 pm There doesn't seem to be a lot of practical, usable numbers available for this technology. I'll let anyone else jump in here, I have no experience with heat pipe. I'd say if the refrigerant is part of the HVAC&R equipment then it should be included in the credit calc. I see one company uses de-ionized water. Regarding tonnage, I thought this was a load calculation based on climate, internal loads, and building envelople. A ton of cooling is equal to a ton of cooling,...

Bike Paths

Schools-2009 SSc4.1: Alternative transportation - public transportation access
posted by Denise Shimabukuro on Jun 8, 2010, 6:15 pm

This credit requires "dedicated walking or biking lanes to the transit lines that extend from the school building at least to the end of the school property in 2 or more directions without any barriers (e.g., fences) on school property". If our campus is small with basically one road in and out, would 1 path be acceptable that leads out to the main road where the transit lines are located? SSc4.1 ...

Artificial Turf

NC-2009 SSc5.2: Site development - maximize open space
posted by Katrina Rosa on Apr 13, 2011, 7:49 pm

For a mixed-use project (1st story commercial, top 7 multi-family residential), in an urban setting (achieves Community Connectivity SSc2): can artificial turf on the roof deck contribute to achievement of SSc5.2? The project is nearly zero-lot line, and reference manual says we can include pedestrian oriented hardscape as open space (due to SSc2), can the artificial turf be counted? If so, would it be eligible as part of the vegetated area (required to be 25% of open space), or considered as pedestrian-oriented hardscape? SSc5.2 ...

LEED Boundary and equipment

CS-2009 EAp2: Minimum Energy Performance
posted by Gabriela Hernández Castillo on Mar 18, 2011, 10:40 am

We have a mixed use project with several buildings on it, from which one of them will apply for LEED-CS certification. The entire parking lot will be underground (it will be three underground floors) The LEED boundary has been drawn and delimited by a construction joint. Some equipment and water tanks will be underground and/or at the parking. I have two questions regarding this situation: 1. Because of structural issues some of the machinery serving the entire project (all buildings) will be under the LEED building (water tanks and treatment plant). Does this affect somehow any prerequisite...

Josh Jacobs Technical Information & Public Affairs Manager UL Environment LEEDuser Basic Member 515 thumbs up April 8, 2011- 9:28 am Cheryl, Traditionally this low-emitting product credit gets lots of questions so please do not feel as if you are the only ones. The specific things that you have to make sure meet the CA 01350 requirements are Insulation, drywall, acoustic ceiling tiles and wall coverings these all must be included. I know of other projects that have included the other products that you mentioned- mainly because they were focusing on good indoor air quality, but also to ensure...

vehicles not listed on ACEEE database- non U.S. project

EBOM-2009 SSc4: Alternative Commuting Transportation
posted by Jutta Berns on Apr 5, 2011, 3:37 pm

we have just completed our transport survey and seem to have a lot of fuel-efficient vehicles, but most don't appear on the ACEEE list- simply because we tend to have models different from those sold in the US. we have been contemplating approaching the vehicle manufacturers to provide us with equivalency scores for Green Score for vehicles sold here (South Africa), but this may not be the correct approach given that this may contain bias/not follow the prescribed methodology. we really would like to explore this, especially since there are easily an additional two or three points at stake...

SLL Prerequisite 3 HELP!!!

posted by Roger Moquin on Mar 21, 2011, 4:33 pm

I have a lot of trouble with that prerequisite. Our project is in Canada and there is water everywhere here!!! First, we have a little water body in border of the road near our project. It is a kind of ditch. How to know if it is a water body to be consider? The metodology is well documented for wetland, but for water bodies, nothing. Secondly, we have wetlands into our boundary. The local authorities permitted us to do any impacts on wetland but asked us a compensatory mitigation outside of the site. Is it "OK" for LEED ND? Thank you. LEED ...

Bus and Lightrail access combination?

NC-2009 SSc4.1: Alternative transportation - public transportation access
posted by Scott Thayer on Apr 5, 2011, 3:02 pm

within 1/4 mile of the main entry which accesses just one bus line. There are several other bus lines available nearby but unfortunately a bit beyond the 1/4 mile walking distance. There is a bus transit center just under 1/2 mile away which accesses two other bus lines. One of these lines provides very frequent service (78 trips per day) connecting directly to a lightrail stop just 15 minutes away (accessing 3 lightrail lines). Do you think this might be seen to comply with the credit intent, perhaps using the Alternative Compliance path? If this stands a chance, should I submit this under the Rail...
