Defining the baseline

NC-2009 EAc5: Measurement and Verification
posted by Gustav Alfaro on May 2, 2013, 12:43 pm

Hi to all: Please help me to clarify how the baseline model is defined for the M&V plan, it is clear that for the "actual case" the proposed model created for the EAc1 must be calibrated based on energy bills and measured performance during one year; but how is defined the baseline mode for comparision purposes? Should it be the proposed model delivered for EAc1? Should it be the baseline model delivered for EAc1? Should it be the proposed model delivered for EAc1 substracting the ECM implemented during the design and construction? Thank you a lot for your comments EAc5 ...

Water Bottle Filling Stations

NC-2009 WEc3: Water Use Reduction
posted by Norma Lehman on May 9, 2013, 9:14 am

since people stand there and let the water run while they are drinking...a lot, if not most of it goes downt he drain as they are drinking. If you compared that to filling a water bottle, there is very little waste, tyically you drink ALL the water that goes into a water bottle. also, by eliminating plastic water bottles in a building, you would eliminate a lot of waste to be hauled off-site. Even if the plastic water bottles get recycled, it still is cost to haul it off, and there is a cost to recycling them too. just a thought. anyone tried this?? i know in the high education world, a lot of Universities...

EA Credit 1- Using available waste oil for heating

NC-2009 EAc1: Optimize Energy Performance

Marcus Sheffer LEED Fellow 7group / Energy Opportunities LEEDuser Expert 5903 thumbs up May 21, 2013- 9:32 am The heating source and energy rate must be identical in the baseline and proposed. So your baseline would have used oil as the fuel source and the cost would also be zero. Also the heating energy use is typically only a fraction of the total energy use and the points are based on the total. As an aside, used motor oil is certainly not the cleanest burning fuel and would not be a strategy found in a green building project. The highest and best use for used motor oil is probably to ship...

VAV FAN POWER BOX MODELING

NC-2009 EAp2: Minimum Energy Performance
posted by HOUCINE TLEMSANI on May 21, 2013, 3:52 pm

I am working on a project where the base line hvac system is type 6 VAV with fan power boxes. ASHRAE 90.1 requires the fan power box CFM to be sized at 50% of the peak CFM at 0.3 W/CFM. There is no guidance in 90.1 user manual on how to comply with this requirement, further more when we asked the modeling software help line they said that it can’t be done and that the software is automatically sizing the fan power box CFM at 50% of the system heating CFM not the cooling CFM. This comment keeps coming almost on every project with this type of system. Any input on how to deal with this issue? EAp2 ...
