Where do I classify the above tiles in the LEED online flooring materials listing ? Is it under Flooring: ceramic? These tiles are manufactured from Italy. Is the Company product data which shows that the tiles are ECo Label Certified/ISO 14001/GBC Italy certified and LEED compliant sufficient to document the certification?

Yes, they could be included under ceramic tile: but also note the following from the The LEED 2009 Rating System: Mineral-based finish flooring products such as tile, masonry, terrazzo, and cut stone without integral organic-based coatings and sealants and unfinished/untreated solid wood flooring qualify for credit without any IAQ testing requirements. However, associated site-applied adhesives, grouts, finishes and sealers must be compliant for a mineral-based or unfinished/untreated solid wood flooring system to qualify for credit.

Is it better to just classify this porcelain slate tiles under mineral based flooring instead of ceramic tiles since there is no FLOOR SCORE certification and considered EXEMPT? Pls. advise. Thanks..

A ceramic product will always have near zero VOCs, at least those that do have a secondary coating applied after firing. This is because the manufacturing firing temperature is around 1800° F, but can be as low as 1300° F, with lower temps resulting in a softer end product. The firing temperatures are high enough to destroy any organic materials in the product which are there before the firing. VOC are classified as as compounds with a boiling point of less than 250° C (480° F). Ceramic firing temperatures are far above what is required to "boil" off any VOCs.
