PI Form 3 - Occupant and Usage Data

October 11, 2011

Question was posted - I seem to be having trouble with this form. it continues to state that the form is not complete. Answer- Make sure all of the boxes that are blank have a zero in them. This made me crazy for at least an hour.

LEED for Homes - OPR ?

October 11, 2011

While it is not required officially by LEED for Homes ( i think ? ), has anyone ever seen an example of a Owners Project Requirements document for residential developments ?

This would make good sense for multi-unit residential. Anyone keen to work with me to develop one ?

LEED-Online Access

leedonline.com access - is it possible???

LEED-Online Access

October 10, 2011

Hi John,

You are correct that the latest version of LEED-Online does require you to use Internet Explorer. I'm a bit confused when you say "the browser tab closes." It is possible you need to allow pop-ups from LEED-Online, so it is able to open things in a new tab or window when you click on them.

Also, I believe that you must use an up-to-date version of Adobe PDF Reader to view some pages on the LEED-Online website. This could mean you need to update your Adobe software and/or make sure Adobe is set to be the default PDF viewer/reader within Internet Explorer.

I have found GBCI's customer service to be very helpful in the past. Perhaps if none of these options work you could try contacting them by phone.

Hope this helps!

appeal alternatives when the reviewer makes a mistake

appeal alternatives when the reviewer makes a mistake

October 6, 2011

OK, reviewers probably don't make mistakes, but what can be done in situations where a denial has been issued, but the design team believes that there is an error in the clarification review and that the credit has been met. Are appeals the only recourse, do appeal fees get refunded if an error is acknowledged, or is there an alternative to the appeal process on a point of clarification? Thanks.

Guardbooth

September 27, 2011

I have a project targeting LEED certification where the LEED Site Boundary is drawn around the parking lot surrounding the building. There is a small guard booth being constructed within this LEED Site Boundary at the entrance to the parking lot. The guard booth has a small AC unit and lighting.

Does this guard booth need to be included in LEED calculations for the building (e.g. energy modeling, lighting power density, controllability of systems, etc.) or can it be disregarded in all credit calculations?

multiple-point credit changes between design and construction

multiple-point credit changes between design and construction

September 27, 2011

What happens, hypothetically, when a EAc1 or EAc2 point calculation changes between the time a design credit is marked "anticipated" by the reviewer and the time final construction phase reporting is completed? Let's say EAc1 in the design phase was marked at 5 points, and marked by the reviewer as "anticipated," but the energy model was reviewed and the documentation uploaded that demonstrates an increase (or decrease) of 2 points. Doesn't this necessitate a third review for validation? Or is the project locked in to the original "anticipated" amount? Is an appeal necessary to bump the points up/down?

Or maybe the client is able to invest more in a pv system that bumps the EAc2 points from 1 to 3. But that decision isn't made until the last minute, and is made to push the project up over the platinum threshold. If EAc2 was anticipated in design phase at 1 point, but the project ends up providing enough pv to earn 3 points, how is that adjustment accommodated? Thanks!

design phase denial

September 27, 2011

When submitting for a split review what are the options when a credit has been tagged as denied? Can the credit be re-reviewed during construction phase? Or is the only option appealing the denied credit. There seems to be confusion about this, with some anecdotal responses that suggest that the design phase reporting is only tentative, and that construction phase really completes the entire process. There are others that say they understand design phase denials to be finished and only can be further addressed by appeals, either a design phase appeal or a construction phase appeal. It seems confusing to me. But my basic question is this: can a design phase denial be resubmitted with further correction or even project changes during construction phase reporting without paying the appeal fee?

deleting old uploads when submitting a revision in LEED online?

September 23, 2011

We recently had some EBOM plans & policies that needed revisions after GBCI's initial review. When uploading the revised plans to LEED online, should we delete the prior version of the plan? Also, will the reviewers want to see the changes tracked? Thanks for any help!

Leed 2009 Standalone Auditorium FTE

Forum discussion

Calculating FTEs

Leed 2009 Standalone Auditorium FTE

September 20, 2011

We are designing a standalone auditorium addition to an existing high school facility using LEED 2009. We are not disturbing or renovating any of the existing school facility.
The addition includes a lobby space, auditorium, stage, black box theater, and a control room, bathrooms, dressing rooms and storage. The seating capacity of the auditorium is 800 people. As this is a standalone project using the student population does not seem to apply as the facility will be used only for assemblies and afterhours community use.
When we attempt to calculate the FTE, Transients, and Daily occupancy – things get extremely confusing. The FTE for staff is clear because we have owner information, but when it comes to computing the peak and daily average of occupancy for both Visitors and Students, it’s a haze. How do we determine this? Does anyone have similar experience with auditorium additions?

Thanks,
Gary

EA 6.1 Good HVAC Design and Installation

September 15, 2011

There is a note stating that "Homes with no heating must follow the performance approach (e.g. EA1), and may not use the prescriptive pathway". I cannot find any explanation in the LEED for Homes material, would anyone be able to explain the reason behind this?
