Leed AP Exam

March 2, 2015

Does anybody have good suggestions and tips for studying for the LEED AP BD+C exam. Many people say that the reference guide on 800 pages contains way more information than one would need to know.

Does the credit information here on LEEDuser.com contain enough information about each credit to get the necessary knowledge to pass the exam?

I am going to start studying for the AP exam this week. I just recently passed the GA with a very high score and am trying to gather good study routine to attempt the AP exam. Very thankful for sharing your experience!

Information on denied credits?

February 27, 2015

Has USGBC/GBCI ever published any studies of denied credits?
Typical total number for a project? Frequency for specific individual credits?

I know there are data on frequency of credits that are achieved, but I am interested in those that are attempted but denied. I realize there are numerous different reasons for a credit to be denied. I am interested in bigger picture questions like … Does the number of denied credits go down the longer a particular LEED system is in place? (i.e. profession gains experience in compliance, documentation) Correlation between number of denied credits and prior experience of design firms? (i.e. experienced firms do not spend time pursuing credits that will ultimately be denied).

This is not in reference to any particular project, just a general question.

Adding carpet to LEED Platinum NC building

February 26, 2015

Hi,

I'm new here and new in LEED, I apologize for my ignorance. I work as a PM in a LEED Platinum NC building. We are planning to install carpet in the top floor hall way. There are carpets in other parts of the building but this hall way has never had carpet. What should I consider before moving forward? How should I proceed to keep the integrity of the certification?

Confidential Projects Information Control

February 12, 2015

I am working on a v2009 NC project with a client very sensitive to the confidential nature of their work. The project is indicated as private/confidential through LEED Online. We are also going to be as careful as possible about information put onto the LEED Submittal, but I think there will be limitations on the amount of safeguarding vs. the amount of information LEED will want to see.

Recently they were reviewing the Certification Agreement, and found section 10 "....This license also grants GBCI and USGBC the right to use, reproduce, publish, create derivative works from, perform and display such Project Information as described in the Certification Guide."

The Certification Guide indicates "You are free to opt-out of the LEED project directory and publicity opportunities as a “private project” at the time of registration: specific instructions on how to do so are available in LEED Online."

The owner is a bit unsure about the language of the Certification Agreement, and it has led to a series of questions. Is it fair to say the Certification Agreement and Guide work together instead of conflicting? Has anyone had any issues with the USGBC/GBCI accidently or intentionally posting information which should otherwise have been kept private? It is my understanding that if a project says it is private/confidential, it will not show up anywhere or under any search engine. Has anyone ever had any luck getting the GBCI to edit the Certification Agreement to be clearer on the matter of reproducing and publishing information?

Thank you!

Understanding LEED Online V4?

February 9, 2015

Hi,

Wondered if anyone can point me in the direction of any useful guidance which helps explain what is what on the new LEED Online? In particular I don't understand the Credit Summary Page:

- What do the different colours mean (I have some shaded yellow)?
- What does the status of the far right column mean? I have credits which are stated as "optional", "attempted", "optional denied"... but nowhere can I find out what this means?

Many thanks!

LEED BD+C 2009 vs v4

January 29, 2015

Hi, I'm working on the certification of a high school, it would be my first certification.
I became a LEED AP BD+C with the v4, but I have been reading that almost all the projects get certified with the version 2009.
Which one is better?
I did the Green Associate with the version 2009 so I know a little bit about the differences.
Hope you could answer my question.
Thanks!!

Dance School rating system: EB O+M School or not?

December 31, 2014

A dance school, one building- 90,000 SF is looking to get certified. I am unsure if it will be EB O+M, or EB O+M Schools.
It is not k-12 and not a university. It is a nonprofit dance school- it does collaborate with a college to give a Bachelor of Arts Degree. I have asked USGBCI through this email 2 weeks ago: certinfo@gbci.org. I am waiting for a response. Any feedback is appreciated.

How can I know if a Chilled beam system for ventilation complies with the ASHRAE 90.1 2007 minimum efficiency requirements ? It has not been mentioned in the ASHRAE Standard.
