Environmental Product Declaration cost markup

April 22, 2015

I am working on a v4 project and am trying to compare the price of materials with environmental product declarations (EPDs) vs. materials without EPDs. Is there a resource that shows price comparisons for products/materials with EPDs vs. those without? If not, is it possible to roughly estimate the percentage difference in cost between products/materials with and without EPDs? Thanks so much, any and all feedback would be appreciated.

Leeds case study

April 15, 2015

Dear All,

I am currently studying Green buildings as a part of my curriculum at premier engg institute ,IIT-Delhi in india where I have been given an assignment to do an analysis of leeds certfication on an existing building. Could anyone help me with the basic project information related templates so that I can complete my assignment easily. I would be really grateful. I am a student and have a very short deadline. Please guide.

AHRAE90.1- LIGHTING POWER DENSITY

April 15, 2015

We are curreinlty designing a building targeeting to be LEED certified under version 3.0,
As per ASHRAE 90.1:2007 requirements for LPD is mandatory, in which luminare wattage is defined as follow:
The wattage of luminaires with permanently installed or
remote ballasts or transformers shall be the operating input wattage of the maximum lamp/auxiliary combination based on values from the auxiliary manufacturers’ literature or recognized testing laboratories or shall be the maximum labeled wattage of the luminaire.

The building façade lighting is designed with multi brightness levels, and accordingly with different power consumption based on the brightness level. The brightness level changes during the operation and in some occasions operates on the full wattage.
When calculating the LPD based on the full brightness the value exceeds the maximum permitted by ASHRAE90.1:2007, however, the system software has a facility to limit the brightness at any time to a maximum of certain value (i.e. 50% in our case) to maintain the LPD as per ASHRAE requirements.

Is lighting power reduction using the software acceptable by ASHRAE90.1:2007 and projects targeting LEED for new construction Version 3.0 or not?

LEED v4-Why did you vote yes or no?

April 13, 2015

I am doing research on the voting of LEED v4. I know that overall, 86% of USGBC members voted yes. My question is, why did they decide to vote yes? And if you voted no, why?

Project on Hold

April 8, 2015

Our project has been put on hold indefinitely by the Owner. There is a chance that it may come back in a year or two. The project is registered under NC v2009. We had not yet submitted the Design submission. Can the certification process be put on hold until/if the project comes back? Is there a maintenance fee or a re-start-up fee? What's involved under this scenario?

Existing Building Demolition

We are working on a proposed new Police Headquarters on the same site as the existing Police Building. They do not want to move out of the existing building until the new one is ready for occupancy.

What implications will this have on our attempts to achieve LEED certification, if any?

Project Sites within a LEED ND Boundary

Project Sites within a LEED ND Boundary

March 22, 2015

There are several sites located within our LEED ND boundary which are at an early project stage, all are large expansions of existing buildings and will still be under design at the time of submission of information for LEED ND certification. The Client has requested they be disregarded for the purpose of LEED ND. Is this possible? These sites are large and located centrally within the LEED ND boundary so it would not be easy or desirable to amend the boundary to exclude them. My understanding is that they do need to be acknowledged and considered as part of the LEED ND if they are within the proposed boundary.

LEED EQ 4.2 Wallpaper Compliance

March 19, 2015

One of the credits we are attempting on a LEED project is the EQ 4.2 (Low Emitting Materials-Paints and coatings). We are in the process of ordering some vinyl wallpaper for corridor areas, and the dealer claims that the wallpaper has passed the CAL 01350 Standard, but we have not received the test result yet and need to order the wallpaper soon.

Does LEED accept the CAL 01350 Standard for the Low VOC content and does this standard automatically comply with LEED standards? Or would we have to wait for the test results to make sure of compliance?

Also is there a specific VOC limit for Wallpapers? Thanks in advance for your input.

Prevention Through Design - LEED Pilot

March 18, 2015

We have a design review tool for new and existing construction projects that incorporates a decisional aid for identifying Environment, Health, Safety and sustainabiliy issues and what measures are needed to address these issues in the design. I have attached a link to a informercial on how the tool is applied and functions with our construction projects. Would this tool allow us to be eligible for points toward meeting "pevention through design" for our LEED projecs?
