LEED boundary- no parking lotNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Danna Lopez on Jun 28, 2011, 5:57 pmThe LEED boundary for our project does not include the parking lot near the building. The form indicates that we must "upload a photometric site plan of the parking areas with a footcandle summary table for av/max/min light ratios (software output), standard or security use (see RP20)." I am assuming that because the parking lot is not in our LEED boundary that we are exempt from this requirement, and may upload a comment indicating that this is the case. Is this the correct approach? SSc8 ... |

Public Street Lights and Municipal Dark Sky PolicyNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Lauren Ford on Jul 27, 2011, 9:13 amOur project is on an Urban site bordered by Public right of way on all sides. The property line that we will use as a Project Boundary is several feet outside the curb line. We are required by the county to provide Public Street lights a few feet inside the curb whose function is to illuminate the sidewalk and the street. Of course, as the function of these lights is to illuminate the public street, they will not meet the 0.01 fc requirement. However, the municipality has a Dark Skies light policy whose requirements are nearly identical to LEED requirements. As such if we meet interior and exterior light level... |

Parking Lighting not through Building Elect ServiceNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Michelle Rosenberger on Aug 26, 2011, 4:56 pmMy project puts a new community center on an existing masterplanned campus. My LEED boundary includes new and relocated parking that serve the new building and are part of my project team's scope of work. Our electrical sub is providing exterior building lighting and light pole fixtures for the parking area. However, the parking lot light poles will ultimately belong to the local utility... |

LZ2 10 foot “hot spots”NC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Vincent Pieri on Sep 26, 2011, 3:36 pmWe are owrking on a project on previously developed land that we have established as complying with IESNA LZ2. The surface parking for the project runs along the Southern edge of our site, which abuts a municipal roadway with existing street lighting. Our full cut-off fixtures, with sheilding are located such that the horizontal fc at the curb line is less than.1 fc- great!. But what is frustrating us is that we have 2 instances of “hot spots” at 10 feet beyond the curb line of as much as.01 fc. The areas are located behind the fixtures, and are no more than 25-30 feet wide. We have looked... |

Site boundary for light pollution creditNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Petra Hajná on Oct 19, 2011, 12:29 pmFor this particular credit there is an exemption on how to determine site boundary for zero lot line buildings, that you can use a curb line along the walls instead of normal site boundary as for other credits. Question 1)- Is that applicable partially to the building that has zero lot line ony on one side of the project site? Question 2)- If so, how does the curb line end in relation... |

Changes for November 2011NC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Bill Swanson on Nov 11, 2011, 2:02 pmExample: 0.06 W/sf in LZ2 or 0.10 W/sf in LZ3 for parking lots and drives. This is a lot lower then the 0.15 W/sf we are used to. Here's the updated Table 1.... |

Interior Lighting for 24 operationNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Erin Holdenried on Dec 15, 2011, 4:04 pmCan compliance with the following requirement also be documented by proving (through interior lighting contour drawings) that less than 10% or the initial fixture lumens will be transmitted through the glazing due to design and placement of fixtures? (Option 2: All openings in the envelope (translucent or transparent with a direct line of sight to any nonemergency luminaires must have shielding (controlled/closed by automatic device for a resultant transmittance of less than 10% between 11 pm and 5 am).) Zero lot line with lighting on the facadeNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Mathilda Jonsson on Feb 27, 2012, 8:55 amHi all! Our project is a zero lot project adjacent to a public walkway. The municipality will not provide any street lighting for the public walkway. The project however will provid street lighting for the walkway by installing lighting at the projects facade though this walking path is not included in the projects scope nor the LEED Boundary. So you see it's the intent by the municipality and the project that the walkway will be lighted by the projects facade lighting. How can we meet the requirements of light trepassing with these conditions? Thanks in advance! SSc8 ... |

LZ2- LZ3NC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Marcio Alberto Casado Pereira on Mar 1, 2012, 1:53 pmMy project is located in an industrial zone, entitled as Urban Area with Priority Densification. As it is very clear if we look at the map, it is a light industrial zone, with lots of untouched green areas, residential areas and has a shopping mall next to it. If one judges by what it is there now, one can say that the area is considered LZ2, and it will take many years to be completely developed. However, in the local regulations says that it is an industrial area. Can we still consider that it is LZ2 or have to consider LZ3? SSc8 ... |
