Uploading Files to LEED 2009

July 31, 2013

I have read all of the posts regarding the ability to upload files. I have un-installed programs, reinstalled earlier versions, restarted my computer, have switched the the 32 vs 64-bit version of internet explorer, and I am still not able to upload pdf's to the appropriate credits. I have Windows 7, so I should be good there, and I downloaded from the system requirments the adobe updates. What am I missing??? I have wasted so much time on this with no success. Will the update in August fix this? Thanks.

Calculating Accurate FTE Value

July 28, 2013

The project is a high rise commercial building, going for EBOM certification. The number we have for FTEs is outdated, as of about a year ago. Management has changed since this number was confirmed and the building has increased in occupancy by about 10%. Does anyone have any ways of going about finding an accurate head count? Thank you!

Case A, B or C?

July 25, 2013

Hi, I'm trying to interpret this appendix as well and cannot get past understanding whether my project is a Case A, Case B or Case C? Can anyone shed some light on this? Thank you.

Discrepancy in Peak occupancy and daily average

July 18, 2013

We have received the review report from the assessor for our office project. It has been stated that- ''The daily average value should typically be higher than the peak value.'' This statement does not seem to hold true technically as far as the definition of the two types of occupancy is concerned. Do you think it is a typo error OR am I not clear on the concept yet? Please explain.
Also, if I have the following pattern, how can I calculate the daily average and peak occupancy as the two shifts overlap?
A. 115 occupants - 9AM - 6PM
B. 12 occupants - 2PM - 10PM
C. 12 occupants - 10PM - 6AM

Thanks!

Final Design Review - Language issue

Final Design Review - Language issue

July 16, 2013

We just received the response of the final design review and the Enhanced Commissioning Credit was denied since the contract that describes the scope of work and the completion date is in Spanish.
Our project is located in Costa Rica, and our native language is Spanish; for this reason we consider that any legal contract between two parties located in this country should be addressed in this language.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Any ideas on a possible solution without an appeal review? Thank you in advance!

Sustainable Sites credit in LEED for Homes

Sustainable Sites credit in LEED for Homes

July 15, 2013

Hi all, I have an inquiry in the sustainable sites category. in 1. site stewardship, point d "build on a lot of 1/7 acre or less, or 7 units per acre" what does "lot" mean? does it mean the zone lot size or the net project area or the gross floor area? and in 6. Compact Development, what does the buildable area mean?

Thank you very much

Design credit after final Design Revew but Before Construction

Design credit after final Design Revew but Before Construction

July 8, 2013

Context:
I submitted my design review, addressed all comments and even submitted an appeal. I have not accepted the appeal review yet - the timeline tab still has the appeal review option.

I did not submit the energy model during the design review because the energy model was not ready by the time the rest of the design credits where ready.

We are well into construction and the flooring credit we were pursuing is no longer an option due to a non-compliant floor being purchased and installed.

We had originally estimated one point for the energy model but the end result came out that we achieved two points.

Question:

I want just the energy model reviewed to confirm whether or not we can achieve the 2 points and forgo another more costly credit. I would normally defer this credit until the construction submission but I would rather know now. Would I submit this credit via an appeal? Would it only get one review or can I resubmit it during construction - and then would it get two reviews?

- I also realize that this question might invite more questions but I figure I will just start with the basics and then some back and forth. Thanks

Time Window for Rework

Time Window for Rework

July 8, 2013

GBCI documentation says that one has 25 working days to respond to "Clarifications". I am assuming credits marked as "pending" are not actually asking for "clarifications", but telling you what is still needed to be done for compliance. Clarifications to my mind is when the reviewer sends you a message requesting some clarification.

My question is:
Is there a deadline for re-work regarding the design submittal first review comments (split-submittal)? Doesn't this only get re-submitted at the same time as the final (construction) submission?

My point is that sometimes the rework is not possible within 25 days...sometimes you may be starting almost from scratch, because of some fundimental change that needs to be reworked across all credits.

Will the USGBC really strip possible certification due to untimely responses?

LEED AP (vs) Green Rater (vs) Provider...

LEED AP (vs) Green Rater (vs) Provider...

July 5, 2013

As LEED AP, I certified a small commercial project (GOLD & ZEB) and a school (GOLD) - both in the last 4 years. Our design firm does very little residential.

I am now working on designing my own home, and decided to investigate the process of LEED certification. My assumption was that as LEED AP, I could submit most (if not all) of the documentation as I had done in the other previous projects. I am trying to learn about "Green Raters" and "Providers". As a licensed architect with LEED experience, is there any way for me to pursue LEED certification for my home without hiring other design professionals? If not, does anyone care to guess at a budget estimate for these required services for a 3K square foot home in Central Florida?

Although I've considered it, I'm not convinced it makes sense for me to pursue becoming a Green Rater because I would not likely be involved in 2 projects every 2 years.

What exactly is the difference between a Green Rater, a LEED AP for Homes, and a Provider?

Any insight would be helpful, Thanks!

Credits remain pending after design final review

July 5, 2013

Hey guys,

maybe you can help me understand my design review score!
Following situation: I have had a couple of credits "pending" after preliminary design review mostly because some prerequisites were not awarded. I made my clarifications and some updates and had all of the prerequisite credits awarded.
But in the design final review report the "untouched" credits still remain pending. Since the prerequisite is awarded you would think that the concerned credit should be awarded as well.
Why is that and how shall I deal with it?

Thanks for your answers!
