LEED documentation and materials tracking are usually the GC’s responsibility even though specific materials selection may have been already determined by the architect or designer.

The general contractor (GC) should be oriented to all LEED construction-related issues, such as

Verify that the whole-building simulation model matches the as-built design. 

Option D: Calibrated Simulation 

Installation of the M&V system should be fairly straightforward. Depending on the system and the experience of the subcontractors, however, specialized contractors may be needed.

The M&V submetering devices or BMS are installed and commissioned to verify functional accuracy.

The commissioning agent carries out the functional testing for all control sequences and timers if installed for lighting design.

The designer should review shop drawings and visit the site for installation inspection. This ensures that the fixtures have a cut-off for uplighting, the ballasts are as specified, and the controls are all included.

During the buyout phase, ensure CO₂ sensors are included in the mechanical or controls contractor’s scope of work.
