Got a BAS?

To earn this credit, your project building must have a Building Automation System (BAS) that monitors and controls HVAC and lighting systems.

The minimum BAS functions for HVAC include monitoring the status of sensors and controlled devices, scheduling equipment off when not in use, scheduling set points and setbacks, and trending equipment status.

The minimum BAS functions for lighting includes scheduling lights to turn off during unoccupied times.

LEED AP as integral team member

You can easily earn this point, simply by including a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) as an integral member of the project team. Since the LEED certification process relies on detailed understanding of LEED, having a LEED AP on board benefits the project and can save significant time and effort, while earning your project a point with this credit.

The LEED AP needs to be involved as a “principal participant” from the start of the project, according to the credit language.

Include all ceiling and wall components

This credit requires all of your ceiling and wall systems to comply with a high standard for low indoor emissions, which can be difficult.

Insulation, drywall, acoustic ceiling tiles and wall coverings all have to be included. If you cannot find an insulation that meets your needs and passes the testing requirements for low emissions, you cannot earn this credit, even if your drywall and ceiling tiles comply.
