Not always standard practice
This prerequisite can be a major hurdle for LEED-CI projects. When challenges arise, it’s most often because project teams don’t review the requirements early enough in the process to incorporate them into the design. Some teams assume that these requirements follow standard practice—but in some cases they do not.
No actual construction necessary
You can earn this credit by developing an IAQ management plan for facility alterations or additions on your project site—even if there are no actual alterations or additions conducted during the performance period.
Elements of a good plan
Your IAQ management plan must include two major components:
An easy credit, if the owner is on board
This credit requires surveying building occupants to find out if they are satisfied with thermal conditions in the building, as defined by the thermal comfort variables defined in ASHRAE 55-2004. The credit costs little or nothing to implement (although it does take some time), and provides important feedback to building owners and operators.
Do it yourself, or get help
If you have the internal staff resources and don’t want to pay for an outside service, you can go with a simple self-administered online survey.
