Historical building, facade lighting, light trespassNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Jens Apel on Feb 4, 2014, 5:29 amWe work on a major renovation of a historical building with zero plot line in an LZ3 commercial centre. The facades will be lighted. I understand that the facade lighting is not exempt from the maximum 5% lumens going up. It is exempt from the exterior lighting power allowance. Can we claim an exemption of the facade lighting only with regard to the light trespass calculation? Even when taking the curb line instead of plot line this may be difficult. Thanks, Jens SSc8 ... |

Event CenterNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Donald Green on Feb 26, 2014, 11:47 amIs there any exception to a project that would only be used 12 times a year (1 time per month) past the 11pm time line for interior lighting levels? The project would otherwise meet the requirements for the 50% cut off the other 353 days of the year. The project would be in LZ4 and surrounded by other like uses that typically would be closed at that hour anyways. SSc8 ... |

Campus lighting calcs at project/lighting boundaryNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Deborah Zimmerman on Jun 19, 2014, 10:58 amOur project is a new building being built on an existing campus. We have lights near one edge of the project/lighting boundary; this is NOT the property line as the campus is on the other side of the project/lighting boundary. The entire campus is considered to be an LZ2. Are light levels on the other side of this boundary an issue? I'd appreciate any input you could give; thanks! SSc8 ... |

Building operating 24 hoursNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by LEED Pro Consultant on Jun 24, 2014, 8:30 pmHello, We are working on a project which is an industrial facility that will operate 24 hours, for the interior lighting in the offices area we will reduce the input power, in the manufacturing area the night shift will only operate 2 of 6 lines, the illumination in these 2 lines will be the only ones that will be working during the night and the other 4 lines will be programmed to be turned off, this represents about a 60% of reduction in the interior lighting, can this be acceptable as a reduction in the interior lighting? Thank you in advance! SSc8 ... |

Line of Site into Multi-Story Dorm & Ceiling Mounted GlazingNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Sara Zoumbaris on Sep 25, 2014, 1:40 pmHas anyone found an answer to the questions regarding line of sight and angles it covers..? My project is a multi-story dormitory where, if you look up from the sidewalk parallel to the building, you can sometimes see the ceiling mounted fixtures in the dorm rooms on the 3rd-5th stories of the building. Do the requirements cover vision into the building at ANY angle? Thanks! SSc8 ... |

LEED Boundary on Military BaseNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Peter Lindabury on Feb 6, 2015, 1:35 pmWe have a project located on a military base where we are lighting a parking lot classified in an LZ3 zone. Our calculations show we are getting 0.01 vertical foot-candles in the parking lot across the road from our construction work area. The parking lot across the road is also part of the military base. Can the credit be achieved with a LEED boundary and the noted light levels being across the road in the other parking lot? SSc8 ... |

Light Trespass Clarified for Campus Projects?NC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Michele Helou on Mar 11, 2015, 10:57 amWe have a campus project which includes exterior lighting added within our scope and on our site to illuminate an adjacent private drive and an adjacent parking lot. (all campus properties). Neither drive nor parking are included in the LEED project boundary as they are existing and not used by occupants of our project. We will meet the interior escape, exterior uplighting and LPD requirements... |

WAter fountain in buildings- exterior lumen ligthingNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Alan Viale on May 20, 2015, 11:50 amGood morning, I wonder how i should account a WAter fountain in the exterior of my building. It is like this one: http://www.hidroworks.com/galeria.php?id=2. The are lamps in the base of the water fountain, so a level zero can be saw the luminosity, Should I account the lumes of this exterior ligthing in the Lamp Lumen Calculation (Table SSc8-4. Site Lumen Calculation)? or should i use a smaller value due to brigthess loos? or should i not account this lamp due to the fact that this ligthing system is an exterior ligthing system independent of the exterior ligthins system of the building? Thank you... |

Pathway lighting extends beyond LEED boundaryNC-2009 SSc8: Light Pollution Reductionposted by Anya Fiechtl on Dec 18, 2015, 10:26 pmWe are trying to determine how best to treat a pathway that extends beyond our LEED project boundary. The lighted pathway connects to the site of a future parking lot that will serve other (future) facilities. Approx. 1/10th of the lighted pathway is within our LEED project boundary, while 9/10ths of the path extends beyond the boundary as a long winding appendage that connects to the future lot... |
