NC-2009 IEQc4.3:Low-Emitting Materials—Flooring Systems

colorants (for polished concrete floor) containing formaldehyde?

we are a GC on a LEED NC v2009 project. we'll be doing both IAQ testing as well as a limited flush out, not nearly the Air exchanges for just doing flush out. my concern is that the "charcoal" colorant by euclid SDS indicates it only has 0 g/L VOC's however it contains/ lists formaldehyde as an ingredient. It doesn't specify but I have a question into euclid rep if urea based or phenol based formaldehyde. Does LEED address the formaldehyde at all in the colorant for the polished concrete floor? Or would LEED address the formaldehyde only if urea-based formaldehyde? Or not at all? So far no concrete sealer has been submitted and I'm not sure at this point if there will be a sealer put on. This will be the finished floor. The manufacturer of the colorants says "It is not a (urea) formaldehyde resin, but an aqueous solution of formaldehyde, CAS# 50-00-0." But I think that CAS # covers all formaldehyde. Thank you, Debra

I can't think of why this product would be excluded, as long as it meets the VOC requirements. There's no ban on formaldehyde in this application.
