Depending on which of the two options you choose for this credit (see Schematic Design), you should start to consider the following two things during predesign:
For mixed-use projects, one service located within the project boundary may be counted towards the credit calculation, and that service must be accessible to the general public. For example, if your project is an office complex with a coffee shop and dry cleaners—and they are accessible to the general public—one of these two can count as one of the ten required basic services.
Together, the owner and design team should set preliminary lighting goals and incorporate them into the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) for building
Use MERV 8 filtration on any permanent mechanical system equipment used during construction. This adds to construction management tasks and could easily be overlooked and lead to loss of the credit.
Projects that use their own maintenance staff for regular cleaning of rollout entryway systems must provide a cleaning schedule and narrative along with their documentation.
Include credit requirements in all appropriate specification sections. Include the general requirements in Division 1 and others in specialties or furnishings (for the entryway systems) and HVAC (for filtration and other mechanical requirements).
For all spaces that may contain hazardous gas (such as garages, janitors' closets, and labs), calculate exhaust rates to confirm adequate negative pressurization. The pressurization requirements are:
an exhaust rate of 0.5 CFM/SF with a pressure differential in relation to surrounding spaces of at least 5 Pascals (Pa)—.02 inches on water gauge—on average;
and when doors are closed, 1 Pa—.004 inches on water gauge—at a minimum.
