Pilot-Credits IPpc98:Assessment and Planning for Resilience

Link to Zip Code Tool

The Hazard Assessment prerequisite calls for “review [of] site-specific references where available to identify hazard risk modifiers of a particular location (e.g. Flooding, Hurricane, High Winds, Tornado, Earthquake, Tsunami, Wildfire, Drought, Landslides). For general reference, use the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety Home Page (IBHS) Zip Code tool located on their webpage."

  • If you navigate to the IBHS link at the top, there is a link on their page that appears to be a zip code tool under “Fortified Resources,” but all those hazard assessment tools referenced are for IBHS members only. I contacted IBHS about membership, and members need to be insurance companies.
  • If you navigate using the Fortified link at the top, there is only information about Fortified Wind (including a fill-out form) that applies to commercial structures. I could not locate anything that assists with site assessment.

Here is the link to the Zip Code Tool but it appears no tool is available. https://disastersafety.org/

Are we missing something?

Hi, Jill! I've reached out to the crafters of this credit to find out whether they can help.

Thank you Jill for pointing this out. I have looked into it and IBHS has discontinued the use of their Zip Code Tool. The reference to it in the pilot credit language will need to be removed. Since it served as a general reference to identify exposures, it will not affect a project's ability to conduct the required hazard assessment. As the pilot credit suggests, the first source for assessments would be local, county, state, and national hazard mitigation plans, and secondly, to review site-specific references where available to identify hazard modifiers of a particular location. These site-specific references are provided in the credit and should prove to be very useful to your project team.  Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hello, Is the completion of Climate Assessment found in Assessment and Planning for Resilience Workbook sufficient for Option 1 submition, or Additional Climate Related Risk Management Plan is required for credit compliance?

Wed, 05/25/2022 - 17:00

We were able to achieve this credit because we Conducted a Hazard Assessment for the Project Site and completed Option
2: Emergency Preparedness Planning. We provided: 1) The completed Assessment and Planning for
Resilience Workbook with any site-specific custom analyses developed; 2) Red Cross 123 Assessment and Facility Description
Forms.  Hope that helps.

Do we need to use specific software to analyze the thermal resilience under option1?
Thank you!
