Connection with WELL

I have just completed this pilot credit and am getting ready to submit it. Since my project is going for dual-certification WELL & LEED, this seemed an obvious pilot credit to pursue. I do believe that since we complied with the WELL Preconditions 87 Beauty and Design I,  88 Biophilia Qualitative, and 100 Biophilia Quantitative, that we basically should already meet the requirements of this Pilot Credit.  I did feel that the narrative requirements for LEED was a little more prescriptive and defined than that required for WELL.    

I agree with the thoughtful comments above.  This is a great Pilot Credit to inspire and inform design processes.  While WELL provides a better holistic view of biophilic design, the LEED Pilot Credit describes more specific strategies.  I suggest LEED Users read the applicable WELL features as additional guidance.  My recommendation to USGBC/GBCI is to provide free biophilic design resources so they are available to project teams.  I visited my local library to check-out a biophilic design book by Kellert, which was extremely helpful, but definitely above and beyond my typical LEED documentation processes.  

I agree with you. It is a good linkage between LEED and WELL certification.

Very achievable and be sure to reference the LBC guidelines as an additional layer of compliance.

Dear all We are working  in an office buiding in Madrid that aims to integrate the building into the city and we have found that both WELL criteria,"Design with Nature" and "Beauty and Design" can work together beautifully to achieve this goal,  discovering a lot of strategies that can be combined with both criteria in mind

Agree with the comments above. It was not clear to me why the Designing with Nature pilot credit was not an approved Crosswalk from WELL, but perhaps it is because the LEED requirements did seem a bit more prescriptive via the requirement to follow the 14 Patterns of Biophilic Design document, which I don't believe is required in the WELL Rating System. Now that this credit is no longer a pilot, it will be interesting to see if project teams still choose to pursue documenting this credit for a LEED ID point. We are pursuing this pilot on a project that is also pursuing the Beauty in Design credit and has been thinking about indoor/ outdoor spaces and connection to art, history, and the natural environment since project inception. The concepts are built into the programming and elements of the space throughout.

Very excited to hear at Greenbuild in November that LEED and WELL will be more integrated in the near future. That will make it easier for project teams to pursue credits like this one without the roadblock of extra documentation. I can't wait to see how that all unfolds!
