CI-v4 MRc2:Interiors life-cycle impact reduction

Tracking re-used materials - Exterior walls.

We are working on a building where the exterior walls are going to be changed very little. I have a question about the '3 layers" and the "SCOPE OF WORK". The entire building is in the scope of work, but very minimal work is planned for the exterior. Exterior Finish: The existing exterior stucco will be cleaned up and patched if necessary. A few new windows/doors are being added as well as some cosmetic stone. Stud Framing: Very little change here except where new windows & doors are added. Interior Drywall: All of the interior drywall will be cleaned up, patched where necessary. Some of it will be cut away to add new electrical boxes. Obviously where new windows and doors are added, it will be removed. we are unclear as to what layers to track. If we have an exterior wall and the surface area is to remain the same, it will simply be patched, can we still count it? If we are cutting into the drywall ever so slightly for electrical, can we count that layer? Thank you.

Kerry, this is a new credit in LEED v4 so there isn't a lot of precedent, but historically in LEED patching or repair of a layer is a valid way of extending the life of those materials, so they can be counted toward your reuse targets.

Thank you Tristan. I will count all 3 layers then!

Is there any new guidance here? The reference guide indicates that you should exclude "elements of the assembly that are outside the scope of work (e.g., the exterior wall)". How do you define the "scope of work"? Since the gross floor area for a project is calculated to the exterior of the exterior walls, and centerline of walls separating spaces, it would seem that at a minimum the interior face of the exterior wall would be within the scope of work of a remodel project. My specific question is if the inside of the exterior wall is finished with drywall and the project decides to maintain and not replace it, does that surface count as reused? Any insight would be appreciated.
