Hi everyone,
I'm currently working on a major renovation project.
The owner is renovating & insulating the entire building but doesn't wish to replace the existing old single glazing skylights for budget reasons.
Obviously, the existing skylights don't meet the ASHRAE Mandatory provisions.
The question is, are the skylights excluded from the need to meet the mandatory provisions since they are not part of the scope of work on this renovation? Or does the ASHRAE mandatory provisions are forcing us to replace those skylights in order to be certified?
Thank you in advance,
Regards,

Window and skylight performance are not mandatory provisions so no worries there. You are not required to replace them. In the energy models they are included identically.

Has your energy modeler simulated the energy savings that could result if you replace the skylights?
This kind of cost/benefit analysis could change your Owner’s mind.

Thank you Marcus, the roof and wall minimum insulation though are mandatory provisions, right?
Jon, the energy model is being done now and we hope to have some cost analysis to present to the owner before any decision is taken, but we are working on a very tight schedule for this project...

Nope. All of the requirements in the 5.5-X tables are prescriptive and not mandatory.
