One of my project includes an indoor swimming pool at a Rehabilition Center. I do not know of any way to apply the water savings gained by the use of a more water efficient filter in lieu of the traditional sand filter to any LEED v3 credits The more efficient filter uses much less chlorine and exponentially less water (200 gallons per every other month vs. 2000 gallons every week), BUT the tradtional sand filter is significantly less expensive and has simpler maintenance. The pool consultant had luck with receiving innovation and design credits in previous versions for the use of the "innovative" water efficient filter, but no longer in Version 3. So because it appears there is no LEED incentive to use the more environmentally senstive system - coupled with that it is more expensive - we are facing a difficult sell to the pool consultant and owner. Any suggestions? Am I missing something?

Kelly, what has changed from previous versions of LEED to v3/2009 that the consultant can no longer get the ID point? I'm not aware of any changes that would have affected this.If they've had success with it in the past, I wouldn't hesitate to submit it for this project. Keep in mind, of course, that past rewarding of innovation credits is not precedent-setting. But that has always been the case—not a change for 2009.I don't know of another credit that would allow you to earn a point for this.Good luck!

Is there a chance to earn point on this through Pilot credit, ..as I remember there are one about process water.
We have the pool in the project and believed we can use water efficient scheme and earn point
Any ideas?

Armen, under the "Bird's Eye View" tab at the top of the page there is information on the pilot credit option for this credit, as as well as a link to the list of all pilot credits and our guidance on them.

We have also had a hard time getting GBCI to accept this approach as an ID credit. We have applied for an ID credit with the use of the Defender Pool System which saves a ton of water, energy, chemical, etc... It's actually quite impressive and unfortunate GBCI won't accept it (for the same reasons you stated earlier). But, they say it is b/c it is not "comprehensive enough"... meaning that they don't believe a single approach or process is comprehensive enough to achieve the goal. We haven't tried the process water approach to this, but I would think they wouldn't accept it for the same reason. If you do end up applying for an ID credit (pilot or not) for this approach, please post how it works out. Thanks!
