Dear all, since v4.1 is still a beta version and on LEEDonline both v4 and v4.1 are available for registrating a new project, which is the general rule for selecting the right version? I'm beginning to work on a new school project and I guess that:
scenario A) if the project is registered on LEED v4 I could switch to v4.1 for some credits; or
scenario B) if the project is registered on LEED v4.1 I cannot back to v4 for some credits.
Is't right?
Please, could someone clarify me that matter?
Many thanks in advance, best regards

Hi Diego,
In general, you can start off by comparing the v4.1 and v4 credits to see what version of each credit makes the most sense for your project which will help you decide if v4.1 would be a good fit for your project. Otherwise, Scenario A is probably your best bet so that you have the ability to pick and choose which credits you want to stick with v4 and which you want to substitute for v4.1. I think you're right that you wouldn't have the option to substitute v4 credits if you registered under v4.1.

You are correct. Both scenarios are correct.

Hi Diego,
I recommend that most projects should register with v4 so that they have the most flexibility with the various v4 and 4.1 versions of individual credits available as possible. Correct, that if you register with v4.1, you are locked into whatever version of 4.1 is in place at the time of registration.

Hi Emily,
With the same question for v4 or v4.1 path, which one best suits an Existing Building O+M campus project?

Hi Eric,
I don't do much O&M work, but have asked the same question of some of my peers who do it regularly. It seems v4.1 O&M was greatly simplified from v4, and the recommendation from an effort standpoint is to stick with 4.1.
O&M's 4.1 was also released quite a bit earlier than all the other rating system's 4.1 versions. I believe O&M also no longer uses LEED Online like the rest of the versions still do; they have switched platforms to tracking efforts in Arc, at least as far as I know. The O&M-dedicated forum page(s) within LEEDuser would probably give you some more detailed, experienced insight. O&M is really a totally different beast from all the other versions (Homes is pretty different, too).

Hi Eric,
You can opt into 4.1 on a credit by credit basis. Please see the link to our blog for more informationregarding which credits it is essential to use 4.1 (lowering thresholds, making the credit easier to achieve) and which credits you can ignore. You will need to indicate which version you are pursuing when you upload your data to LEED Online.
