Team roles and responsibilities

For EAp1, the CxA can be a design team member if the building is less than 50,000 SF, but for EAc3 that exception does not apply -- the CxA must be "independent of the work of design and construction," in the words of the credit language.

Could you argue that the energy modeler is independent of the work of design and construction? Not sure. Other thoughts?

Seems like we could get into a tautology pretty quickly if the ECxA actually gives their opinion on design strategies...

Cool, I had to look up that word to even reply. I would have to agree, that if energy modeling is done early, it is a partner in the design process to come to the right systems for the building; all systems including envelope, lighting, and HVAC.

To get the true value out of the Enhanced Cx, they should be contributing a new voice to the dialogue of the design team.

We've finished the design review on a project that did just that. Hopefully we won't run into trouble on the construction phase review. The energy modeler/conceptual engineer was also the CxA. The MEP was then Design/Build.
