Sustinability teams in different construction companies

HI All,

Really hoping to get some insight from all you wonderful people on how the Sustainability teams are set-up in your construction companies. As mentioned in my introduction post, I am the first ever Sustainability Engineer hired by my company.....until now all the work was handled by project teams. Which worked for them in the past, but with increasing focus on sustainability, I am proposing a development of a bigger sustainability team within my company. Can you guys helps me with the following survey questions:

Name of the company:
Does your company have a paid sustainability professional role:
If so, how many such roles and how are they distributed among various projects:

Thanks so much for your input!

Structure Tone 1 paid sustainability professional (me) We've had mixed results when documentation was given to the project teams, but believe that it is critical that the responsibility stay at the team level in order to meet the client's expectations and to better control the overall close-out of the project. I have encouraged clients to hold retainage on a project until the team completes rating system documentation. We've also had mixed success with identifying people in multiple geographic locations to wear a second hat of sustainability. It matters if this person has a passion and interest versus being "voluntold" to participate. Also, in this model project needs trump any participation in sustainability.   Hope that helps. Anyone have a similar model that works really well?

Skanska USA Building has a Green Project Solutions group, now, in addition to our Chief Sustainability Officer who oversees sustainable strategy/solutions for all of our business units. It began with just myself in Washington as a pilot to see if my time could be filled (and billable) on projects via providing certification support (preconstruction support, training, toolkits of certification forms/spreadsheets/lessons learned, monthly check-ins with project team champion) and outside specialty consulting. I currently have 16 Skanska projects in our Washington office pursuing a green certification, and am consulting on 3 projects pursuing specialty certification outside of Skanska - we have over 80 green projects nationally. Once we piloted this here in Washington, we then added two more national GPS Directors so there are currently three of us to cover the US. We have been operating under this model for over a year now, and it gives us the capability to each have a region we support where they actually see our faces and know us personally, allows us to create shared resources such as LEED GA/AP study guides/workshops, and the ability to also support a green network of those who are passionate about sustainability but do have other job responsibilities with a monthly call to share information and provide education and ways to engage on sustainable initiatives. BCCI Construction Company has a dedicated Sustainability team as part of our Professional Services Group. Within the team, we have a Sustainability Manager( myself) an Assistant Sustainability Manager, and a Sustainability Coordinator, which are all paid sustainability professional roles. The team manages projects for LEED and WELL etc, supports in CALGreen requirements, manages construction waste diversion, performs site visits for IAQ management, provides internal training, provides educational presentations to clients and the marketplace, creates informative blogs about the green building industry. These tasks are typically divided up among the team members appropriately, with the Sustainability Coordinator providing most of the administrative support and more responsibility with the other roles.

we are a bit different, in that we are both a construction company and an architectural firm.  we have 3 full time sustainability personnel...Director of Sustainability (me), and 2 Sustainability Project Managers (one that is an engineer and does all of the technical task such as energy modeling).  we are at the disposal of both sides of our business.  we manage LEED, WELL, various City's green standards, etc., manage our internal sustainability objectives, track and report our emissions as a company (CDP), educate staff, participate in project interviews, present to our teams and our clients, etc.
