NC-v4.1 SSc2:Protect or Restore Habitat

Soil tests no longer required?

Hello,

the current credit wording, changed by ID#100002460  https://www.usgbc.org/leedaddenda/100002460 , states under 2. Step-by-step Guidance that "Soil tests are only required for imported soils" however just few lines below under 4. Required documentation, the bullet point states "No longer required: Soil test results". I am a bit confused as this seems a bit contradictory..any thoughts on this? Thanks for leaving any comments.

I'm also looking for an answer to this question, as the reference guide is very vague regarding soil testing for this credit.

Same here... I don't see soil testing listed in the credit language, has it been removed from v4.1 requirements?

I asked my reviewers on v4.1 project this same question because it was not clear which guidance should be followed and their response was, "GBCI recognizes the conflict in the Required Documentation section of the v4.1 Beta Guide, where it
states that soil tests are “No longer required” and does not differentiate between onsite soils versus imported soils. However, the Step-by-Step Guidance provides clarity stating, “Soil tests are only required for imported soils.”

Thanks Summer!

I asked a LEED Coach the same question and they provided the same response as Summer's, that testing is only required on imported soils.

In the credit's guide, the last sentence of the Soil Testing Guidelines section states, "Soil sample test results may include the components listed in Table 3. Table 3. Soil components".  I'm questioning the intent of the word "may". Have practitioners found flexibility in what components are tested for?  Is this up to a design professional such as a landscape architect to determoine what testing includes or have you found this to be a more or less prescribed list? If tests are more limited is it accepatble for the landscape architect to write an explanation that states something to the effect that the results of the tests indicate the soil will be suitable for the plant materials selected?
