NC-2009 WEp1:Water Use Reduction—20% Reduction

Social meeting residential building terrace FTE/visitors calc.

Hi everyone, I have a project (residential building) that has a roof terrace with self-service amenities such as kitchenette, chimney, lounge areas, etc. to be used by building residents and their visitors. Nevertheless, there is not a regular occupancy pattern, since we don't really know when do the residents will have their social events, and occupancy will definetely not be as frequent as you would have in a restaurant or any other case that could be found in CS Appendix 1. We have 2 half baths. Access is only permitted to building residents and their guests. Any thoughts on defining my fixture usage group? I don't know how to come up with annual days of operation and FTE calcs for this case. Thank you in advance.

Nadia, that's a tough one.... my advice would be to make it up, in a way that has some logic and is defensible. For example, maybe there is another similar project in the area and you could talk to someone familiar with it about how often such facilities are used. Maybe the project owner knows something about who will be living there and what their patterns are likely to be. Maybe you could treat the space as if there were transients using it on a daily basis, and use the Reference Guide defaults. If anything, I would err on the side of overestimating use, and hope that you are using low-flow fixtures there and there isn't a negative impact on your credit achievement.

Hi Tristan, Regarding your comment "Maybe you could treat the space as if there were transients using it on a daily basis, and use the Reference Guide defaults". Where can I find these defaults? In the areas defined in Appendix I of the Reference Guide, there isn't a compatible use for this kind of space. Which default do you suggest me to use or where can I find it? Thanks.

Nadia, I was referring to the default tables located under this credit in the Reference Guide. I'm not suggesting that there is a default in those tables for lounge spaces, but that perhaps you could get something of value there. Not that helpful, I know.
