I am currently involved in the rehabilitation project of a set of school buildings located on the same grounds. The buildings are divided programmatically - classroom building, library building, sports hall building. The intervention includes replacing HVAC and lighting systems, replacing window frames and all interior finishes and furnishings. It will also eventually include the demolition and construction of interior partition walls. Since they are K-12 school buildings the joint certification of all buildings in the same certificate is a possibility (LEED Interpretation 10203: "K-12 school projects are eligible to include more than one physically distinct structure within a single LEED registration").
My questions are:
1) what is the most appropriate system in this case, BD+C or ID+C?
2) if you do not want to certify all campus buildings, can you certify some of the buildings within the same certificate and exclude the others from the certification?
3) If some of the buildings have programs with different levels of education, i.e., a building for preschool and another for elementary school, is it still possible to certify all buildings in a single certificate?

Pedro, that LEED Interpretation doesn't apply to LEED v4. Likely you'll need to request a new CIR to see if it will be allowed here. What you're describing is not really in the bounds of this MPR.
That LI is also pretty specific in some requirements that might not fit with your project, like #1 in the LI.
It does sound like a BD+C project, though.

Thank you Tristan.
The same CIR is referenced in an article from USGBC dated June 2016 - http://www.usgbc.org/articles/leed-certification-single-building-or-mult... - so I think the contents of this LI should also apply to v4.
Assuming that's the case what do you think regarding my second question?

Pedro, I'm not sure about that. That article was posted when you could still register for v2009. I wouldn't trust a USGBC blog post over the Interpretations database. I have requested clarification.
On your second question, I'm not aware of any reason you couldn't draw the LEED boundary at your discretion to exclude buildings, as long as your exclusions were consistent with the intent of this MPR.

Tristan, thank you once again for your help.
I had already submitted this question to USGBC so whenever I get an answer for them I'll let you know.

Answer from USGBC confirmed your point of view: "LEED Interpretation 10203 does not technically apply to LEED v4 projects".
However, found the same exception referenced in the Getting Started section of the v4 Reference Guide - page 14, last paragraph. Therefore, this exception can be applied for v4 projects.

Yes, I got the same confirmation from USGBC. Thanks for teaching me about this!
