EBOM-2009 IOc1:Innovation in Operations

purchasing merchandise for resale

We are a non-profit org. with a modest, but growing, merchandise sales program. Currently the manager of the program loosely uses guidelines to choose vendors based on the content of their items (recycled or not), shipping method (we use bicycle deliveries when possible), amount of packaging they use, etc. Does a more formal and verifiable process seem like a good potential to earn an IO point? Would they maybe even consider this for a pilot project?

Hi Ethan, I think this could earn an IO point but strongly recommend reaching out to GBCI to get your approach approved. Check out the advice under Path 1 in the Birds Eye View above for instructions on how to craft a successful IO strategy. And if you do get a green light from GBCI, make sure that you have a copy of the approval (like an email) that you can upload with your application so that the reviewer can see exactly what was agreed upon. Best of luck! Trista
