NC-2009 MRc5:Regional Materials

NC & CI MRc5 DIVISION 12 – FURNISHINGS

Hello, I am working a LEED NC 2009 & Retail CI historic building MRc5. Apparently DIVISION 12 – FURNISHINGS include: ART, Murals and more specifically Ceramic Tile Murals etc....The my question is are all the items listed in "MasterFormat™ 2004 Edition – Numbers & Titles" DIVISION 12 section to be included in the MRc5 calculation? Would preserved historic protected decorative wall elements of the facade and internal walls (fresques) be included in this calculation as reused or salvaged on site elements? If so what $ value would be given to these elements? Thank-you, Ian

Ian – Artwork cannot be included in Credit Calculations for MRc3 through MRc7. A LEED-NC Addendum dated May 9, 2011, excludes artwork from MR calculations. Reference Guide Correction #100000953 added a sentence to Page 337 of LEED-BD+C, 1st Edition. The passage now reads, “A project team may include materials costs from Construction Specification Institute MasterFormat™ Division 12—Furniture and Furnishings as long as this is done consistently across all MR credits. EXCLUDE ARTWORK, INTERIOR PLANTS, AND MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.” However, the items you refer to may fall under MRc1.2.

On the other hand, new materials used to preserve or restore existing elements should be included in Credit Calculations for MRc3 through MRc7. These may include products for restoration & preservation of the following materials: Division 4 – Masonry & Stone Division 5 – Decorative Metals Division 6 – Carpentry & Woodwork Division 7 – Roofing & Sheet Metal Division 8 – Windows & Doors Division 9 – Plaster, Tile, Flooring, Paint, & Finishes
