Hi Cynthia,
Working on a LEED v4 BD+C project who has targeted the Sustainable Sites: Light Pollution Reduction Credit it seems that you will likely meet the requirements of this credit if the Light Pollution Reduction credit is met. There are some differences in the requirements that might affect documentation and compliance:
1. SSpc55 for LEEDv4 does not mention requirements for internally illuminated signage, I assume there are none for the pilot credit.
2. Requirements for Backlight and Glare are not mentioned either, only Uplight with the same maximum uplight rating requirements as the credit.
3. Although the pilot credit does not specify using the Calculation or the BUG Rating Method to demonstrate compliance it refers to the same table as the BUG method Table 1 in the Light Pollution Reduction credit to show compliance thresholds for Uplighting.
4. The pilot credit has less exemptions. The pilot credit does not list the following as exemptions to the Uplighting and Light Trespass requirements as the credit does: façade and landscape lighting with automatic shut off from midnight to 6 am in LZ 3 and 4 and lighting for theatrical purposes and internally illuminated signage.
I wonder if anyone has had the experience where any of these exemptions or using the calculation method has hindered their compliance.
