NC-2009 IDc1:Innovation in Design

IEQc4.6 as ID point in LEED NC 2009

I would like to use IEQc4.6: Low-Emitting Ceiling & Wall Systems from NC-Schools as an ID point in my NC-not a school project. My question is this: The reference guide states that NC-Schools projects can earn up to 4 credits from IEQc4.1 - IEQc4.6. I am already earning 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4. Any thoughts on the success of earning 4.6 as an ID credit? I can document compliance with the credit but I'm concerned that it will be denied because I would have 'too many' IEQc4 credits.

Hi Joseph, I do not believe this would work. A credit from a different rating system can be utilized as an ID point, but a credit from the same rating system which you are certifying under is not defined as innovative. Since GBCI has given a 4-point limit for IEQc4, it seems that they are telling us that 4 points is a reasonable maximum to award for low-emitting materials strategies. It's good to have your IEQc4.6 documentation in order, in case one of the other IEQc4 points gets denied, however.

I agree with Dana.

Well, riddle me this: Plenty of people here seem to be having success earning IEQc4.5: Low-Emitting Furniture as an ID credit. That credit is also in NC-Schools. Why would IEQ4.5 be successful and IEQ4.6 not? Granted, no one else indicated if they were also earning all of IEQc4.1-IEQc4.4...but this doesn't seem so clear cut to me.

The LEED-NC rating system does not include the IEQc4.5 and IEQc4.6 options, so perhaps those other projects certified under NC rather than Schools?
