Any recommendations on specs for the v4 MR credits? For example, we used to say 10% recycled materials required. The multi attribute credits are far more complex - how to translate that to a spec?

Lissa, if you haven't already found it, The Green Engineer has a great, freely available resource. I'd start there.

The first step for the new LEED v4 Building Product Disclosure and Optimization (BPDO) credits is disclosure - you have to ask for the information to be provided. So the specs need to do two things - (1) under the submittal section request EPD's and/or Material Ingredients –Documentation be provided. (2) To clarify what is required, at the beginning of Part 2 - Products include a performance requirements paragraph providing additional info on EPD's and material ingredient disclosure documents.
Ideally you would have a plan for which sections can comply with these requirements. The Green Engineer tracking spreadsheet is not being kept up-to-date, but it is a reasonable place to start. They do have other good resources for language, etc.
The disclosure credits at this point are very doable - jobs i have tracked can easily get to 20 applicable products in both EPD and material ingredients, with an additional 20 in each for exemplary performance also well within reach. You just need to find the products. Between metal framing, wood, concrete, insulation, water and air barriers, doors, door hardware and finishes, it is pretty easy to find compliant products.
And once you have your list developed, it can be used on multiple projects - how often to you design a building without metal framing, storefront, gypsum board, and firestopping? There are at least 8-10 products there that comply with requirements.
Optimization credits are currently out of reach - but disclosure is very doable - so focus on adding specification language asking for this info to be submitted on all of your work and start building your firm's database.
