There is no simple answer to this question. I sure do not recommend it, since a significant amount of time is invested by a CxA during the design phase that hiring another firm would have to duplicate in order to do a good job. There is also a loss of continuity from design to construction...things that are difficult to put into documents. Now if the original firm just is not available, or there were some major concerns over the quality of service, then, of course, you do what you have to do. Know that there will be catch up that the new CxA will need to perform that would increase their fee.

Thanks, yes I agree that the loss of service continuity can affect quality and cost, but in a situation where the project has to go that route for a good reason, I take this answer as that GBCI would still consider the application for the credit, correct?

I would agree that there is nothing in the LEED credit language that prohibits this. In case the GBCI reviewer has a question, I would clearly and succinctly explain the situation in your narrative.
