Greenbuild 2021?

Hi there colleagues!

Out of curiosity, do you plan on attending Greenbuild in person in San Diego in September? My staff asked me if we were going and my answer is partially contingent on the extent to which attending would mean getting to see some of our favorite people (read: all of you). Looking forward to taking the temperature of this group to understand who might be going =)

I'm going - mostly in my role as Chair of the LEED Fellow selection evaluation committee to hand out the new LEED Fellows' certificates (have they stopped giving away the big glass bricks?).  I'm getting in Wednesday and leaving Friday.  In other words, I'm just going for the parties.

Hi folks, It feels odd to say this, but no one from BuildingGreen will be at Greenbuild this year [imagine sad-face emoji here]. However, we'd still love to help coordinate a meet-up of some sort. For Greenbuild 2021, I'm having trouble booking sessions and creating a schedule for the conference. Is anyone else having trouble with this? If anyone can provide the link to build a schedule I would appreciate it. I've already registered.

They aren't having registrations in advance this time. First come, first serve in person, I believe. On the app, you are able to add it to your schedule to save though.

Thanks Natalie! also just got "official" word from the Greenbuild Conference: "You aren’t required to select sessions this year. You can build your own agenda on our mobile app/virtual event platform once it opens, but that’s for your own scheduling convenience. You don’t have to lock yourself into specific sessions in registration like you have in prior years. We’ve made the process much more flexible. It’s first come first serve in each session room onsite, and we don’t anticipate seating issues as the rooms in San Diego are quite large."

Shifting the topic a bit here: my panel-mates and I are debating whether to attend in person due to Covid risk. The actual question for us is not so much the personal risk but whether there will actually be enough of a critical mass of people in attendance at this point to make the journey (carbon!) worth it. Does anyone have insider knowledge of the larger trends here? Will the convention halls be half empty, or worse? We are considering switching our presentation to all-virtual. I just bought my air ticket last night - had heard that there were about 800 people registered as of last week or so, but haven't heard of the conference itself deciding to cancel.  Was hoping that it would be a TBC ("throw back conference") like Greenbuild in the first few years, more intimate with better quality converations (even if no parties....)?!!

I have also heard through a different grapevine that there are only about 800 people signed up.
Between the low turnout and the Delta Variant, I am in the process of seriously considering shifting to virtual. When I signed up, I had not contemplated going to a conference in person during a COVID variant peak...

They're requiring proof of full vaccination or a negative PCR test within 72 hours of arrival. I believe they're also requiring masks and indoor events are being seated with distance.

Calling all Greenbuild attendees for a Green Gurus meet-up! Although BuildingGreen staff will not be attending this year, we still want to continue the tradition of Sustainability Leaders getting together at Greenbuild. Some of you may be finding that your plans are in flux at the moment, but for those who do end up in San Diego, we hope you’ll stop by! BuildingGreen will provide support from a distance and a few of your peers have volunteered to be on-site hosts. Special thanks to Don Posson, who helped scout a location and will bring coffee (and maybe donuts!) Details:
Wednesday 9/22, 7:30 AM (before the opening remarks at 9)
