Ilana, I am checking around but I could see this going either way. On the one hand the foundation is definitely structural and is an extension of the wall. On the other hand, I have the feeling that if it was intended to be included it would be specifically named in the credit language.

Sorry to bring back a really old thread, but I was wondering if this had ever received an answer. I'm working on a project that is under NC-2009, and we have a lot of foundation wall and footings that are being kept/reused. My question is how do you calculate the square footage of the foundation wall? Is it by surface area? If so, does it get rolled into the exterior elevation line item on the Building Reuse Calculator I downloaded from this site? Or do I calculate them as their own line item. There was a line item provided on the calculator when I opened it up labelled "Foundations/Slab on Grade".
