We have had a preliminary review comment that highlights a missed prerequisite. We will require more than the 25 days allowed for our response. I understand we can ask for an extension, but have not found anyplace to do that in LEEDONLINE. What is the procedure to ask for an extension?

You can request an extension.
It has been a long time since I had to do it, but it hasn’t changed much. Go to www.gbci.org, and click on “Contact” at the bottom of the page. Select “EMAIL US” “About project registration and certification.” Provide the requested information about you and your project and, under “How can we help you?” select “Project Review Extension Request.” New fields will become visible requesting additional information. Complete the required fields, confirm that you are who you say you are, and click “Submit.” You will receive email confirmation and, within a couple business days, an email granting the extension.

We were able to successfully ask for an extension, in fact more than one extension, simply by using the Feedback button on LEEDONLINE. The reviewers were quite gracious, however on the third extension they were certainly hinting that they'd like this stuff to be prompt. Issues with foot-dragging third parties kept delaying our response, but people here should know that extensions are easy and multiple extensions for responses to review comments are allowed.

Hello,
Is the extension valid for all the design credits, or can we ask an extention for 1 or 2 credits only ?
And is it possible to get back to those credits one year later ? So ask for an extension of 1 year

If you are looking to submit one or two credits later than the rest of the design credits, your best option would be to submit them with the construction application. Or, you could submit them as an appeal between design and construction review, but that would mean paying the appeal fee.

In the olden days (when this post first started), GBCI did prefer for teams to request extensions past the 25 business day review/response period. I had to ask so many times across so many projects that I actually got an email back from GBCI at some point several years ago specifically telling me not to ask anymore...it was fine to take more than 25 days.
Ever since then, I haven't asked, and pretty much every project goes past that 25-day period.
So, for Yassir, in addition to what Emily #1 stated above, it is also ok (though not recommended to do on a regular basis) to get design review comments back, and when you resubmit, if there are 1-2 that you are not ready to respond to, you can temporarily withdraw them for the resubmission. This will prevent the reviewers from looking at it a 2nd time while they re-review the others. Then later on when you submit the construction credits for the final (second) review, you then resubmit those 1-2 that you saved from the design review for their final review, too.
All credits get an initial and a final review. In the above scenario, just those 1-2 items have a delay with their 2nd review.
Again, I don't recommend it for regular use, but we have had to do this in a few instances b/c of various, project-specific reasons.
Like Emily #1 said, if you know you're not ready to have a particular item reviewed when you initially submit, it's best to just wait to submit it (defer it) until the construction submission.
