WE have a project that is an addition to an existing building. The addition is served by the HVAC from the existing building. It is my understanding that per the following, the addition could be certified separately from the existing building.
- An addition to an existing building may certify independently, excluding the existing building.
- The LEED boundary should include the complete scope of work that will be completed at the same time by the GC.
- The LEED project can be delineated by ownership, management, lease, or party wall separation.
However, if they decide to upgrade the existing building HVAC and do this as part of the new addition project, it seems like they would need to include the existing building in the LPB. Is my understanding is correct?

Sue, from what you described it is a toss-up. I would say that the scope being covered by the GC would indicate that it's one project, but if they are quite separate in other ways, this could be overruled. I think we'd need to understand more detail to offer a suggestion.
