Has anyone ever heard of an innovation credit for a project that is going to produce a Cradle to Cradle product? We are currently working on a LEED brick manufacturing plant, which will produce Cradle to Cradle Certified bricks, and they are curious to see if this could earn an innovation credit.
Thanks

That's a great story! It might be worth a shot, but I'd be surprised if it got through. In my experience LEED has been intentionally blind to the question of what activities happen in a certified facility. Otherwise, it could lead to a slippery slope--should buildings in which environmentally questionable activities take place be banned from LEED? Who would make that judgement?

There is a C2C option listed in the ID catalogue from NC 2.2. I am not aware of a project that has successfully documented, but it would be worth looking at for your project. It involves using a certain percentage of C2C products in your project, so if the design / construction involves C2C brick in large quantities, you might want to consider some other C2C products and submit it.

We just got on of our LEED CI V 2.0 projects back and we went for the ID credit for using cradle to cradle products/materials. It got approved. My advised is to definitely try it. Here is the wording we used for the ID credit. http://www.mbdc.com/images/LEED-Innovation_in_Design_credit-2009_12_15.pdf

That's excellent, Susann, Congratulations! There may be others that have earned this innovation point, but this is the first I know of. Anyone else out there who has gotten it?Of course, all this is quite different from what Travis first asked about, which is whether he could get an innovation point for building a factory that will make C2C-certified bricks.
