The architect on our team is considering specifying a product ( for example, rainscreen products by Centria,) that touts MBDC Cradle to Cradle Certification garnering 1 point for an Innovation in Design Process (ID) credit, on the manufacturer's website. I seem to remember some announcement when this sort of thing was happening with the first 'cradle to cradle 'certified products a few years back, but can't seem to find any official USGBC, or now, GBCI, document that confirms that mere specification of a 'Cradle to Cradle Certified product' garners one point for an ID credit in LEED 2009. Can you clarify if this kind of assertion for any C2C certified product has any merit for LEED 2009, and if so, where is this information documented? Thanks for your help.

Alice, I wrote about this topic in Environmental Building News a couple of years ago, in "Cradle to Cradle Recognized in LEED."C2C was approved, but you are right to be suspicious about the claim from Centria. The threshold (which seems very unlikely to be met) is for 2.5% of the materials budget to be C2C-certified.I recall that this "administrative CIR" was to be temporary, while under review by the MR-TAG, and not having heard more about it, I'm not sure if it's still in effect for v2009 or for earlier projects.
