NC-2009 MRc7:Certified Wood

Cork FSC certified?

Hi all, I would like to suggest an acoustic insulation in cork, but I’d like to share my opinion if consider or not cork as wood, to determine if include this materials in credit MR7. FSC consider cork a non-timber forest products. According to this definition, my opinion is to exclude this product from credit MR7. Do you think I can compare bamboo to cork, using LEED Interpretation ID#2535 made on 04/22/2009, which allow to included or not in the calculations, at the project team discretion?

Mario, by default it would be excluded as not being a timber product. If you wanted to include it, I think you could make a case for it as being analagous to bamboo, but I haven't seen a definitive ruling one way or another.
