I am under the impression that Regional material distance calculation option 2 (travel by sea, rail, etc.) is not allowed in LEED Retail-NC projects, but I'm finding conflicting information. Can anyone identify where the definitive statement can be found (whether or not we can use Option 2 in Retail-NC projects)?
The USGBC website lists Option 2 in the credit language for Retail-NC MRc5, which makes me think we can use it. BUT the BDC Material and Resource Calculator (Aug 2012) has a note in the Option 2 columns that states "Not available for LEED for retail projects".
I'm trying to figure out what the definitive rule is: Can we use Option 2 for LEED for Retail NC? I'm asking about NC, not CI.
Does anyone have any insight? Thanks!!!

Brad, the credit language is the "bible" of LEED. Whatever it says there trumps other language that may be conflicting. The option does seem to be available—see the credit language above.
